I'm beginning to think I'm the only one who thinks letting these players back into the SANFL is wrong. I think players should have to actually play something like 7 games to play in the finals. I think its rich that a whole bunch of players from a local AFL team that has been an abject failure in a given year, can then overload a local team, taking spots from other deserving players, with its cast offs, thus tipping the balance of SANFL finals.
I don't think Mattner should play for Sturt. He hasn't earnt the right to play for our club. Its the rest of the team that got them to where they are and they deserve the opportunity to make something of the finals series.
Plus if you're a club that produces talented players, who make the AFL grade, but get drafted interstate, you luck out big time when compared to other clubs who just so happen to have their players drafted by the Crows or Power. I really don't understand why more SANFL teams, lets be honest, the bottom 6 clubs, don't protest against it and change the rules. Why Sturt would want to allow North, Torrens and Centrals to be overloaded with AFL players at finals time is beyond me.
Anyway, just my thoughts. Sturt made the bed, so they can lie in it. This isn't a whinge because of where my club finds itself, I just honestly don't feel its right to change the composition of sides at finals time like we do.
I'm actually surprised the league even likes it.
