As stated in my original post its not gout, its actually nowhere near the big toe, its the other side of the foot mainly in front of the ball on the side of your foot/ankle. Doesn't hurt to touch.

PS Thanks for the replies!!

In that location is the peroneal muscle group and tibialis anterior, as well as all the extensor tendons. It is a complicated spot and think you need it examined. A podiatrist would be your best bet. They will ask questions like what makes it better/worse, what type of pain is it (sharp/dulll/ache) , do muscle resistance testing, check footwear and more. If you pm I can recommend someone

Yep, TroyGFC's got it in one. Too much protein in your diet Wegs.

Old people like us have to keep away from Lamb's fry or too much alcohol which causes Gout.

Edit, whoops, I didn't read your post Wegs. How about going to your local footy club (ie, North in your case) and asking a friendly trainer??)

Hey I'm a friendly trainer....

If the x-rays show anything that looks like fractures in the metatarsal area (the abnormalities you were talking of) that pain isnt gonna go away real quick.

A guy at footy kept complaining of sore feet, after ruling out Plantar Facitis (sp), having him go the podiatrist and get inserts, he finally got referred to the best foot doc in town (apparantly looks after the Roo), they took MRI's and all sorts of wonderful scans and found that most of the phalanges and metatarsal area had fractures right through them, and the only way he's going to get rid of the pain is to break and reset both of his feet, even to remove some of the bones in his feet that wont affect him afterwards.

But thats just a worst case scenario of course  ...

I have a similar issue with my feet and playing footy.
Feels like they become heavily fatigues, like they're loaded with lactic acid.
The pain used to run down the sides of my feet and right up my achilles.
Now i get my achilles strapped and that worked alright, but the sides of my feet are still affected, enough to piss me off.
I get inflammation of the achilles and adductor tendons, so i put it down to lack of blood flow to these areas of my feet.
Not sure tho.

I think Wedgie will be flying high if the Roosters win on the weekend and we will never hear the end of it. My dad has the best painful foot injury he dropped a 750ml bottle on his big toe and served the tendon.

If the GP didn't check out things like tendonitis and calcification spikes in the tendons in the feet try another GP. There was a GP named Jack Tillinger at Prospect who was very thorough. The other option is a good Occupational and Rehabilitation Physician. There was one named Colin Mills who was based in Holden St Hindmarsh and saw a lot of sports people - you need a GP referral. Orthopaedic Surgeons tend to be a bit narrow focussed. Podiatrists are fine in their field but it is a narrow field and a broader perspective might be needed.

It pays to get several different opinions. I knew a woman once who went to a Chiropractor for month having her neck manipulated for lumps in her breast ["All disease is caused by misalignment of the vertebrae." is a basic tenet of Chiropractic.] It turned out to be cancer and it was too late - a victim of tunnel vision.

I say "was" because I left Adelaide in 1998, and don't know if they are still in the same locations.

Im booked in for more Xrays than a referral to a podiatrist.
Touch wood, they've been alright this week which proves it obviously isn't gout with what I drank on the weekend!
Booked in for next Tuesday but might put it off even longer as its the Chimney unveiling and I planned to go even if either side won.
