Glenelg has a Cheer Squad?

Postby BPBRB » Thu Sep 13, 2007 8:50 pm

In this weeks Guardian Messenger there was an painful article on the Snout's Louts - sadly as I live near the Bay I have to read all the Glenelg carry on every week. :( It was much better when they were down the foot of the table and Gordon Armstrong and Ben Hook were getting into them every week.

Anyhow here's the article for those interested:

http://www.messengersouth.com.au/article/2007/09/11/2160_south_news.html

After years of them bleating that they are not a Cheer Squad but it now appears (and the media doesn't lie) that they are a Cheer Squad! Also they give their numbers as about 100 members!

Now was it Rushby or Pseudo (who both appear in the accompanying photo) using "poetic" licence to bullsh*t!!! I'm suprised you just didn't quote the average crowd numbers at Bays games to be your "membership" base!

100?
bwahaha, there was about 10 at Woodville Oval including me!

Its lucky you don't get the Southern Times BRBRPB, now that is depressing reading the way South have gone this year.

In all seriousness, the Messenger gives local footy great coverage, had my ugly mug in there a few times when organising the rally a few years back.
I look forward to a rousing "Tigers, clap clap clap,Tigers, clap clap clap, Tigers" chant from the Snouts on Sunday.
Should be a great atmosphere on Sunday with the North, Sturt and Glenelg fans out in force hopefully.

At least I live around the corner from the Messenger Office at Morphettville so I go and get a copy of the Prospect version which is much better reading!

Obviously the media thinks the Snouts Louts have arrived, since they chose to endow us with the prestigious label of "cheer squad". We at the Louts are flattered, but humbly cast aside such appellations, for we are not worthy.

Anyway, it could be worse. Someone might yet cut the article out, scrawl "the Snouts Louts are arseholes" on it, and stick it up in the changerooms

Wedie?? :?

I'll be around the place but might spend some time in the car park at our usual BBQ whilst the Reserves game is on 12.30pm.
Long day for North fans with the U17s kicking off the day at 9.15.
Will try to take some photos of the early game but won't be promising anything.

They do, if we could get something like that in the Advertiser, that would be great. But to get that coverage in one go, you would need about 8 different Messenger Newspapers.

I know you are being tongue in cheek Drebin, but I thought it was a good article, and it's important to point out that the Raison d'être for the Snouts is for the betterment of the GFC.

A board member @ the GFC recently asked me how many "Snouts" there are. Is no answer as such as there is no official membership/database/enrolment form etc, and we certainly don't have any intentions to make it a clique, and have any method of "restricted membership".

There are 316 registered users on http://www.snoutslouts.org, but that obviously includes notable footy identities such as Drebin, Punk Rooster, Wedgie, Jimmy and Mal.

Over the last 2 seasons we sold about 120 of the Snout's Tops (some people did buy more then one)

The area @ the Bay where most (not all) of us watch the footy from is called Snout's Hill, and I guess on a good day there would be at least a few hundred Bays supporters on that hill. When the Bays are on a roll (and our boy Macca is performing for us  ) the atmosphere there cannot be beaten.

The 'we are not a cheersquad" is a long standing running joke. Cheer squads are full of loser nerds who don't have a life, whereas we are a squad of people who cheer

PS Drebin its Snout's Louts not Snout's Lout's
He's still my hero even if he is a little bit crap.

I was being tongue in cheek as you well know. I think the Snout's are good for the Bays - the well behaved gathering of supporters as opposed to some more vocal and in your face groups that follow other SANFL teams that have been established for much longer!

As for your bit about Cheer Squads - you obviously were not a member of one back in the good old days of SANFL Footy - pre crows. However some of the people you refer to as "Snout's" faithful on the hill at the Bay are ex-Glenelg Cheer Squad people including a couple of famous borthers who ran the Cheer Squad for years and some of their Cheer Squad mates from the 70's and need I remind you they are certainly not Nerds as you put it!

P.S. Thanks for the English lesson btw - just for you I have fixed it as I know it would bug you that I got your name wrong!

In the 11 Messenger News Papers this week, these are the aricle from this week's editions that have been put on line, there could be more that haven't. Centrals had last week off, and another this week, so there's nothing on them, much more comprahensive than the Advertiser IMHO.

Just on that also - and Messenger are doing a fantastic job with their SANFL articles each week - don't forget Sportsbeat runs two pages of SANFL each week also. Previews on one page, a general article on the other. This week's general article is the season review of the four non-finals teams.

Some of these articles are reprinted each week on http://www.independentweekly.com.au.

For what it's worth, the Snouts are great for the comp, as are the other groups/squads etc (although not all clubs have recognised "groups", "squads" nowadays :? ). Just know that if the Bays hit the front late in the game Sunday, the Oval will be rocking!
