Congratulations to SMOSH. Deserved premiers this season. I think their consisentency throughout the year showed they were a better side than Athelstone even though Athelstone had more big name/big dollar players and they proved it on the day.

was a bit disapointing i got to the game just into the second quater and the game was just about over. Raggies never got into the game. Any big moves happening at raggie land they will need to open the cheque book again next year.

"Open the Cheque Book again next year"

Just goes to show you obviously dont know the term play with your mates & not for the dollars... its not always about The big dollars.
You would be very surprise to know what the big name players are getting paid at the club.

But i do agree the club needs to recruit heavily in the off season to be competitve in Div2 next year.

Alot of the blokes went to school together when they were younger, or live close by.

i wouldnt wanna see smosh go up a division & then back down a division like they have the past couple of years.

mate you had a bloke playing in your forward lines and in the last qtr he was saying they are cashed up and willing to use it. So i am not making that up. I agree smosh needs at least 3 to 4 new recruits next year. But they did get 3 or 4 this year and that went well. We look at getting old scholars and mates to the club and we dont spend big $$$$. I no that Forby has spoken with a couple of possible players already.

Cruzn9- please try and tell me that Athelstone would not have spent less than 10 times as much as any other club in Div 3 paying players.

It might be a different story in Div 2, however.

Well firstly I dont know what other clubs are paying there players so i cant comment on that.

Give me an example of what you recon a high profile player would be getting paid - Its amazing what some ppl think these players are getting paid.
For example - Sheedy would be on $80 & he will come close with coffee to winning the B&F this year.

Dont tell me trent ormond allen, cakebread & polplyic (i dont know how to spell his name) is playing for love.
Each club has 4 or 5 star players that get paid money.

Give me an example to back your story up.

I have heard he is not at all popular with the playing group. In fact a couple of players absolutely hate him.

Just the word on the grapevine.

I really do hope they make it to the GF this year. If they went out in straight sets again and got a new coach, they would be absolute favourites for next years flag. I dont think there is any other club in the grade that can match their playing list.

You were right about this though, Tod barabas has stepped down from coach of the Athelstone Football Club... He has decided to call it a day.
In my opinion he was the man to take them into Div2 but he has given the club 3 yrs service & been coaching for over 15yrs & has decided to give it away. He will be still involved in the club in some way. Im sure the Raggies & personally myself wish him all the best for the future & thankyou for all your help.

its good to be right for a change. I have no doubt Athelstone will be a better club without Barbaras. From what I heard, he created too much friction in the playing group. If you can get someone who call pull the team together a bit more, there is no reason why you wont be strong in Div 2 next year.

Re paying players. I just know a couple of guys from various clubs who were offered some serious money ($400 plus) by Athelstone. Dont want to name names (pathetic I know) and none of them ending up playing with Athelstone.

And I know Robbo wouldnt be out there for the love of the club. How many clubs has he been through over the years? Seeing as he was injured alot of this season you just might be able to keep him next year. Cant see too many clubs digging too deep into their pockets for a bloke who gives you 8 or 9 games a season...

What players were offered $400 a game what a crock. i heard when Robbo was signed to athelstone he was offered $500 a game, gosh ive heard some shit in my time.

You Quoted "I know Robbo Wouldnt be out there for the love of the club" Thats right mate you dont know him, he is a paid player which im sure any club would like to have him in there side. He is out there because of his mates.
Robbo rolled his ankle twice, bruised a rib & strained his knee this year which also prevented him from playing in the Grandfinal. (All these injuires couldnt of been prevented) Atleast he didnt strain a Hamstring all year lol
Robbo played for Seaton for 3 yrs & Athelstone for 2 yrs, before giving up/away port magpies because of injury
But I love your comments because they are your opinion.

Who do you think would be best suited as the replacement coach at Athelstone.

Are you a player or spectator.... We have probally had a beer together sometime during the year cause im out there week in week out watching the boys.

Why would you Tip smosh based on the reason that Robbo wasnt playing.
You must rate him as a player, but recon clubs wouldnt dig deep to have him in there side even if he plays half a year.

Your messages are all over the place Orts.

I was still tipping Raggies even if he wasnt playing, cause they have played beautifully for most of the year without him.

I think a few of the SMOSH boys could back me up on this one but I am under the impression that Cakebread has always been looked after (no subs, free functions etc) but never paid as such, which adds to the debate as to playing for the love/money as he is a player that could demand some decent coin. On the other hand I'd suggest SMOSH would have been a bit disappointed if they paid him big coin considering he spent a fair amount of time over seas this season.

I think there are too many gullible people in this world - $400 per game is nuts for Div 3. What's even more crazy is the supposed guys who were offered this absurd sum went elsewhere - makes the story even more laughable.

P.S Hey Schimma - last time I saw the Athelstone treasurer he was on the side line drinking beer not running around the forward lines spruiking what cash is available. As I said some gullible people in this world!!

Maybe 1 was getting paid the other 2 come from the school and play at smosh because they love the club and love playing with there mates. And the 1 getting paid was doing the fitness coaching side of things.

did i say it was the treasurer, no 3 players heard this and a traininer, I dont care what other clubs do in regards to paying players, Smosh pays very little.

The raggies will still be good next year good a great club and a lot of depth, dont forget they had 4 sides in the finals so they will go from strengh to strengh if they pick up a few more solid A grade players.

played all C and B grade as he just wanted a kick and could not train as he was working afternoon shifts. Went overseas till about round 9 this year then played every A grade game after that.

My mail from Athelstone is that Barabas has resigned as coach. Was asked to continue but believe that he wants a break from footy. Expected to be announced officially this weekend.

The guys at Athelstone would have to be pretty happy with his performance. Although he didnt get them a flag he has got them into A2 and recruited well. A couple more recruits next year should see them be well and truly in the mix. Wont win the flag but certainly have the talent to play finals footy in A2.

SMOSH might be losing their captain. Word is Port Magpies are looking at Ian Ralston for a key defensive role. Loved his defensive strength in the Grand Final. In the mould of Dustin Fletcher. Punch, then kick long out of defense. Also, Fraser from Seaton back to SMOSH. Happy to try get his old club up to div1

Fraser not a wanted player at Smosh. The club will not even talk to him, Seaton can have him, we dont want money hungry players at our club.

as for Ralo good luck if port want him, he has turned into a very good player for the club.
