So are you donating your pay packet to others or offering to work for free to help your employer?

Sales in our industry are going crazy and hence the company is booming.
So I have no need to help my employer or industry.

I am working plenty of overtime coz of it and not being paid as I’m a salary worker.
I’m certainly not complaining though.

The AFL players aren’t working hence why should they be paid?
There are no stupid questions, just stupid people.

All contracts are going to have to be declared null and void arent they?
No way the AFL can have the same salary cap in future years. ******* Sydney will probably get out of paying Buddy the last 5million of his contract

Because the AFL players are contract workers I’d assume

Possibly.
Maybe see a cut in list size or a cut on the salary cap

That would have a good effect and lower tier comps - Year round drafting/pillaging (not that we're far off that anyway)

at the same time though 200 players will be injected back into local comps from the AFL

Would hate this to happen as a mate's lad is a big chance of being drafted this year but a cut in the lists would be great for the comp and the state leagues.

You can't really unilaterally declare a contract void, hence the term contract.

Not for long I would suspect .. Longer the season goes and injury lists pile up, they’ll just take the better players whenever they like

Not really - if there is a radical change in the situation, like an unanticipated event means that contractual obligations are incapable of being performed (war is a typical example), then it is 'frustrated' and the parties are automatically freed from all obligations after that event.

AFL contracts may have some provision written into them that deals with unforeseen circumstances (I'd imagine they a pretty tightly drafted), but you'd have to read the details of one to know.

Absolutely, none for Paddy Dangerflog after his comments demanding to see the AFL's books before the players negotiate on pay cuts. How do you reckon that would go down if you demanded to see your employers books before he stood you down?
The average wage is 370k. 50% for 2months is $30833, the players have taken an 8.3% pay cut, how ******* generous of them. Their spin doctors are certainly hard at work here.

Meanwhile someone in the club's admin takes a 100% cut!

The league has lost 100% of it's revenue and they want it all. Nothing but greed by the AFLPA

The Aflpa are just doing what it was set up to do...look after the players.
However the players make the decisions guided by the Aflpa.
Nobody has mentioned the managers role in all these discussions.
If the players take no pay, or 20% that means managers get zip also.
Managers IMO shouldn't be involved in the discussion full stop.

Agreed.

I was involved at West Adelaide back in the late 90's and i recall fondly physically frog marching the little fat head Max Stevens off of Richmond Oval after he refused to acknowledge after numerous conversations and warnings that a 1/4 time break wasn't a good time to talk to a then 14 year old Ben Rutten about joining his stable!
