Mourinho Quits

Postby Swooper16 » Thu Sep 20, 2007 12:03 pm

Heard this rumour this morning and Chelsea FC have just confirmed it. I reckon this has more to do with Chelsea only getting 24,000 to their last CL game more then anything else. Kenyon is always on about creating a super club and i think a half empty stadium was the final straw and Mourinho has decided to walk rather then deal with all the media, etc

Chelsea confirms Mourinho exit
From correspondents in London, England

September 20, 2007 CHELSEA manager Jose Mourinho has left the English Premier League club, the Blues announced on Thursday.

"Chelsea Football Club and Jose Mourinho have agreed to part company today (Thursday) by mutual consent,'' said a one-line statement posted on the club's website.

Sections of the British media reported Mourinho had sent text messages to members of his squad informing them of his decision to leave.

BBC Radio 5live football correspondent Jonathan Legard reported Chelsea captain John Terry was one of the players Mourinho informed.

Mourinho's departure will send shockwaves through English football.

The Portuguese manager transformed the nation's football landscape after taking over at Stamford Bridge in June 2004, winning two Premier League titles in his first two years in charge and the FA Cup last season.

But his relationship with Chelsea's billionaire owner Roman Abramovich has always been fraught. A disappointing 1-1 Champions League draw with Norwegian side Rosenberg on Tuesday was his last in charge.

I reckon it has more to do with the clash between Mourinho and Abramovich, possibly even over Schevchenko.

Liverpool fans have a love-hate relationship with the "The Special One", who despite being an arrogant, often misguided, tool was at least interesting for his outbursts and I guess in a way half of me will miss him ... The other half gladly says "Far Cough" though

Im sure there are probly 100 reasons he left. Just think Wednesday was the final straw. I cant see him coaching another Premier League team for a few years. A bit of a shame - even if you love him or hate him i think everyone would agree he was definitely entertaining. Unfortunately his team never were!!

No way Jose!!!

Bye bye 'special one'. Turns out there wasn't anything so special there after all.

Reports on Sky News are that the key was the style of play Jose adopted at Chelski was the overriding factor in his 'mutually agreed' departure.

It's a bit like the AFL though - unfortunately, shit boring football seems to win points. It's very hard to be entertaining and win trophies at the same time.....unless you are Barca.

one worrying point for chelsea is the russian elections are nearing us... if the putin loses then Roman Abramovichen is in trouble..... roman has already lost plenty on chelsea.....

looks like chelsea will end up like leeds soon

i am biased because i am a chelsea supporter but i don't believe we will do a leeds. they know roman will not be there forever, their strategy has been to set up the off field business i.e. a marketable entity with his dollars while his is there. the plan has publically been to break even in 5 years, hence the lack of big spending this year, and although if roman left a year or two early it may be damaging i think in general the depths of spending are over and things look good

i have been following chelsea for a fair while now and i remember when they were popular on a epl stage but not beyond that, their trips into asia and the US have not just been for frankies tan (although it helped)..... i think they have been building a marketable presence world wide and successfully. so if roman leaves yes many big name players will go but a stronger club will remain than what had existed. some yank will move in and buy up anyway

and if all else fails and we end up in coca cola league 2 at least JT will be there fighting away with whatever crap ends up there, he's all heart :D

as for mourinho....

farewell "special one", apparently winning every domestic trophy in 2 years is not enough anymore, good luck at spurs, martin jol is goneski

Please don't call me arrogant, but I'm European champion and I think I'm a special one.

will be interseting tho to see how chelski go without mourinho, and when the russian leaves because he cant find anyone to fill mourinhos shoes. i hate to say it but he has turned chelski around as four - five years ago they were in crippling debt, struggling to win and looked doomed like everyone says ' like leeds '. not forgetting a year before leeds got relegated they played in a semi of the champions league. a year is a long time in football so they could be in championship next year, very much doubt it.

don't forget, leeds are a fairly extreme example, if financial management can be ranked from 1 to 10, with 1 being a complete clusterfck, then leeds would be a negative number

after they made the CL they basically put the house on red and hoped for the best. oops! black it is! anyway, somebody will dig this thread up if i'm wrong, lol

From what I understand, the clash was more to do with the interference from above (not god, but his right hand man Roman)

Rumour has it Abramovich and the new guy were the ones picking and buying new recruits. ShoveTenko was supposed to be have been bought against Moronihos' wishes and he had had enough.

No chance Chelski will be going down, this year or next year. IMO.
