Adelaide Oval's Siren

Postby Wedgie » Thu Sep 20, 2007 7:58 pm

I'm surprised this hasn't been brought up before.
Admittedly I was on the hill for the end of both games last week but didn't hear the final siren once. Only realised each game was over when some players were throwing their arms up in the air.
Also heard the same from someone sitting in the members.
Considering Adelaide Oval somehow manages to amp up crap music at the breaks to 5 million decibels surely they should be able to do something about the siren before it may cost a team a final?
Or are we going to wait for another incident like Launceston?
Come on SACA, be proactive about this one.

I was in the Chappell Stand and like you Wedgie did not know when any of the quarters finished or when the game was finished. There wasn't a lot of crowd noise so unless it was the strength of the wind carrying the sirens noise above the stand it is about time the SACA cranked up the decibels.

i heard it on sunday sitting in the bradman stand, mind you i was listening for it after benny moores goal & had no problem during the 2nd game either

mind you at some grounds including glenelg i can never hear it & surely as you say they can get a siren to be louder, for everyone's sake

ps, i never heard it at woodville when it was a draw & i was sitting in the pocket at the same end (sthn) when it went
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

The siren at Woodville has improved this year, I heard the final siren two weeks ago (at the Northern End). Last year, at the southern end, against North, I couldn't hear it; now it's a bit better, as I've heard it at each end. Still not that loud at the southern end though.

I heard the siren all day at Adelaide Oval, but then again, I was behind the goals, so it sounds like it gets far less audible any further east.

Glenelg's is undoubtedly the quietest. Though maybe Snout's Hill is just not situated well to hear it; theplayers never seem to have any trouble.

I didn't hear the Woodville siren either, but then it's hard to hear much when you're jumping up and down yelling "GO MAHONEY" at full voice...

Unley's is pretty quiet as well. So is Norwood when it isn't going through the PA system.

It looked like the Sturt players on the outer wing didn't hear it either from what I could tell on the telly.

Perhaps they need something like they have at Prospect where the electronic cock crows at the top of its lungs...

btw - what is all this Adelayoval bashing from Rooster fans???

Just talked to my butchers who are great guys despite being Sturt fans, they didn't hear it.

Its only a real issue if it can't be heard on the ground though, that's the only thing that concerns me, luckily the members area and Bradman Stand end is very quiet compared to the rest of the oval which might make it easier.

I didn't hear it at half time in the first League match myself; Adelaide Oval/SACA surely must do something about this!
