C.D.F.C. History Makers 8 Consecutive Grand Final Appearance

Postby Apachebulldog » Sun Sep 23, 2007 7:46 pm

What a fantastic effort by Central District to notch up its eighth consecutive Grand Final apperance and creating history.

After being shut down by the mighty Cocks for three qtrs the mighty Dogs defeated a gallant Rooster outfit by a margin of 20 points.

Well done to both sides for a nail biting game of footy.

1995 was the last time Centrals came off a last minor round bye (R25 that year) straight into a 2nd Semi. It was also the last time they lost a 2nd Semi (2 points).

Today's win makes it nine 2nd Semi Final wins in a row. (Edit: That Centrals have played in)

Yeah without doubt an amazing performance by Centrals. Back in the 1980's and 1990's I used to wonder what it was like for people back in the 1950's and 1960's when they watched Port and then Sturt make the Grand Finals time and time again.

As a Sturt man, thinking back to the run from 1965-1970, 6 Grand Finals in a row and 5 premierships, I wouldn't of thought it likely to see that sorta thing again, especially considering the dominant Magpies outfits of the 1990's couldn't even manage it.

... but geez, kudos to the Doggies, 8 in a row and a chance to win its 6th premiership, its just incredible. It also means the dogs have made 10 Grand Finals in the last 13 seasons I think, for 5 premierships, 4 runner-ups up to this point.

Well done Centrals... truly the SANFL juggernaut.

I'd say that too - 1996, 2000-current.

Interestingly, with our current run in the finals it's been 10 years since we played in a PF (1997 - lost to Norwood), and 9 years since we played in an EF (1998 - lost to Port).

What a fantastic effort though. If someone told me at the end of the 1999 season we'd be in the next 8 GF's I would have suggested they move to an institution. Not even Walt Disney could write a script like this.
