2006 PLFL Season

Postby bluestheboy » Wed Mar 22, 2006 9:31 am

A little birdy tells me that at last nights league meeting the Mallee Park FC have been suspended from the PLFL pending the outcome of an investigation by the SANFL. The matter relates to (or maybe bought to a head by) their behaviour following the 2005 PLFL GF and attitude to subsequent tribunal hearings. The hearing is set for Mid april.
There you are fellas, we are a 5 team competition at this very moment in time.

Just in closing on cricket, Well done to the small group of volounteers and the underpaid staff of the PLCA. The season was competative in the senior grades and there wasnt much between the 2 colts sides. The Nacos Challenge was well recieved and who could forget the finish of that final match. Grand Final last weekend was great with a good turnout. All in all I thought it was a great job overall of a limited budget, obviosly we can improve on things in the future such as available ovals, MP pitch, Centenary pitch and presentations ect. Lets all work together and make these improvements happen.
Cant give you too much goss on the LS football team wcp as that would involve going to training, think there are a few new faces but generally will be a young team that will need time... bit like rossco's 2YO.
The talk around town would suggest a market like this...
W $1.60 realisticly $2
T $3.00 $4
MR $5.50 $5
MP $8 $5
LS $21 $12
B $10,000,001 correct

what are your thoughts on framing a market btb/rossco/scoob?

MP $5 out to $21... surely it would all be sorted out by the start of the season! Having lost a reported 11 players they look to be on the slippery dip!

That may be why i've heard a few whispers that some MP players have been spotter sniffing around some GF clubs, especially ramblers! This now may explain why

Very interesting bluesy, I'm 100% sure though that they will be there for round 1. Could already hear the cries of racism if they were permanently abolished, besides I don't think it's going to hurt having them around next year, half the side has gone to Adelaide (including Mooney) and the other half is reported to be going to Bostons with a couple to Ramblers.

I've said this before and I'll say it again, PL footy is in trouble. It's bloody boring!! Boston games are just a non event and the day out when playing Mallees is not a true footy experience (ie no banter between supporters etc). Souths have a very small following and unless you stand behind the goals at Centenary you'd hardly know opposition supporters were there. Tasmans were good last year, improvement on the field and enough supporters to create some atmosphere and funny barbs at each other.

That leaves us & Waybacks, and we both provide a great days footy. Standard is normally very good, highest crowds for each round and a fixture you always like to win. However, 2-3 out of 5 games per round that you really look forward to is not enough. GF & PL must merge in my opinion. Be interested to hear some others views on the above......

Couldn't agree more WCP.. Both Leagues should have done this 10 years ago.. The standard in Lincoln is ordinary compared to other country leagues.. Sure our top 20 players are as good as most but the depth falls away dramatically.. The problem apart from some boofheads on each Executive is the Netball. The GF league like most country leagues have the Netball follow the footy and its a great family day. That doesn't happen in Lincoln and we would almost need a "rebel" netball comp to breakaway from the current set up..After playing in the River Murray & Northern Areas leagues where this does happen it is a great day.. You get more skirt hanging around the footy clubs for the lads, better crowds and the whole atmosphere shits on Lincoln...

I too have no doubt they will be there for Round 1, but the PLFL is committed to follow this through so will follow with more than a passing interest.
Also agree that something needs to happen to our game, and hopefully Ravendale will be the first step to resurrecting it. With the netty next door to at least one game a week, it's gotta make a difference. Hopefully BFC can get more competitive...doesn't take much....a fit Brett Watherston, a couple of running Mallee Park types, Lydeamore for the full year, Michael Franklin...given we expect that the overall standard will drop a bit who knows?....there is only one way they can go.

Just when we have worked ourselves up to a leauge leader and you guys want to merge.... Give us our time! Your odds are ludacrist Grub, Waybacks have been pretenders for years! They cant win! MR are value @ $5 always competative and will give a good showing. I tell you what with Rino at CHf and Tonks whos going to stop them , we should be favs.
