Are South trying to "con" their players?

Postby drebin » Wed Mar 22, 2006 10:35 pm

I watched the South players going through a training run on Wigley Reserve, Glenelg tonight. It is unusual to see a team training regularly away from their actual area - not counting nuetral areas such as the city and parklands. Are there not sufficient grassy areas beachside down South or are they trying to "con" their plethora of recruits that Noarlunga in the winter will be just like the bay in the summer/autumn? Boy have Cupido, Clarke and others got a rude shock coming!

At least North take their away from Prospect sessions to "up market" Kilburn which is in our area! (no offence to all those Kilburnites).

I don't think it's unusual at all. I'm pretty sure most clubs have done somethiong like this at various stages.

Just the culture of the club and the time it takes to get to training and when you get there how horrible it is surely has an impact on the team. It must be disheartening to have no more than 200 hundred supporters watch you every time you play away from home too. Add to that the amatuerish feel of home games and isn't exactly the ideal stimuli to perfrom at your peak when you compare it to the support of Port, Norwood, Sturt, North and the Dogs.

In opposition to that most Victorian recruits experience must colder training conditions than Noarlunga back home so who knows.

I heard that this was at the request of the players - they wanted to be close to the airport in case they had to suddenly catch a plane
