The AFL's Executive Management Team was paid $10.6 million in salaries in 2019.. That is more than the Wesfarmers Executive Management Team were paid in salaries. The AFL is a $678 million entertainment business. Wesfarmers is a $27,920 million conglomerate.
Way overstaffed and grossly overpaid.
Stop **** around with the game. You don't own it.
Sadly your right, professional sport has 100% moved into the entertainment industry, the games are just the weekly finale to the mid week reality show that is the AFL.
I understand rule introductions that protect players, ultimately it is their workplace and they have to be as 'safe' as reasonably practical. The stuffing around with the game in an attempt to manufacture entertainment is criminal though and they have imo destroyed a sport I once loved and lived for.
I don't care if the game is a bit softer these days, that's fine and some of the stuff in the 70's-80's was just thuggish, what I don't like is sitting there being frustrated for 120 minutes because the rulings are so inconsistent, based on millimetres and impossible for umpires to do their job well.
