Back in the day when I was paying over 50 cents in the dollar tax rates I had a system: lease a car but check around for the lowest interest rate, run it down to a low pay out level then pay it off and give it to the wife. Then trade her old one in for cash and re-lease a new car for myself at full price, thus avoiding being taxed on any profit made on the newly paid off car. There was often thus a tax free profit on the oldest vehicle.
It worked really well in the high income tax and high interest rate era. At one time when home loan rates were 18% I leased a Porsche 930 at 12% and used the cash from the wife's old car to reduce the home loan.
These days of course I can't tax deduct my cars because I'm not in private practice any more. Now I keep them till they die. My previous Audi S2 was 16 years old when it finally died, and it successor, my current 2014 Renault RS 265, only has 59 K on the clock and is likely good for another 7 years.

A couple of weeks ago I received my electricity bill but still haven't got a gas bill, do I rattle the cage?

Put some money aside so if they ever work it out you can pay the 6 months worth of bills that might hit in one go, but other than that keep quiet and see how long you can get it for free.
(By the way, the maximum they can back-charge you for is 2 years, so after that, you can start spending the money you are putting aside).

This was the question i pondered at 4:30 this morning when I suddenly woke up, and it was shortly after followed by my nose runny and need to blow.
Fell back asleep and nothing, wake up again later and same same.
