Congratulations, thoroughly deserved from what I saw of him this season.

Magpie Start Found

HARD-WORKING teenager Steven Summerton is Port Adelaide to the core.
A resident of North Haven, deep in Magpies territory, Summerton has risen through the club's grades from the under-12's to senior football.

So when coach Tim Ginever divulged his plans for the Magpies for 2008, Summerton was among those high in his thoughts.

Ginever wants to lift the content of local product in the league side and Summerton fits just nicely into his process.

Having played five league games in his debut season last year, Summerton's goal for 2007 was to cement a spot in the club's top side.

It took the midfielder just one game to prove that was a mission he could comfortably attain.

He had 34 touches, took nine marks and kicked a goal in the opening-round victory over Norwood.

So impressive was the display he was named the weekly winner in the inaugural Coca-Cola Star Search Award.

That effort was backed a week later with a best-on-field performance in the 52-point victory over Woodville-West Torrens.

Summerton established high standards for himself from the opening bounce of the season and he continued to shine in an indifferent year for the Magpies.

His net result was 19 league appearances for the season, averaging 21 possessions while his average of 16 kicks ranked him 11th in the competition.

Such was his impact, Summerton has been named the Star Search winner for 2007 and will be presented with his award at tomorrow night's Magarey Medal presentation.

"The award recognises young talent and it is good to be the first recipient - that is an honour," Summerton said.

"For the first round I did not know if I was going to start in reserves or league so it was good to cement a spot.

"I used to go to Magpies games with mum and dad when I was little. I loved the way Tim Ginever played.

"I guess I've got a similar game to him.

"I played centre in almost every game so it was good to get a run through the midfield. No one knows who you are so it makes it easier for me."

That, young man, is rapidly changing.

well done & a great effort to be first picked & not get run over by someone else later in the year is an achievement in itself, i actually voted for his team mate levi greenwood but obviously something went wrong with the voting system as they took it down & i did mentioned with a post 'i smell a rat' but i can't argue with the winner
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

I don't think he'll go top 10... possibly first round or late teens early 20's
