Thanks for providing answers to my question/observations that in terms of finals series played McDermott hasn't got the worst coaching record at North and he isn't the only coach to make good players leave......
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Nah, you've got the wrong idea, old bean.

This was not a discreet evacuation in the huddle. The Port huddle had already broken up and the players returned to their positions. The erstwhile Mr. Leys casually let fly out the corner of his shorts whilst standing upright near the true CHF position while their opponenets were still locked in conference. He did this in full view of anyone who bothered to look - which included the 3 or 4 Port players milling in his immediate vicinity, each grinning from ear to ear.

Mr Leys was truly a sad, socially inept, grotesque individual. I have met and interacted with various Port players in their clubrooms before, even bought raffle tickets from them. Most are surprisingly amiable and sociable on our side of the fence. Not so Mr Leys; he would simply sneer as he walked past.

Drebin & GORAW facts don't lie McDermott has a better coaching record at North than Barrie Robran, at least he took you blokes to finals

So if you're going to bag Bones, you've got to bag Barrie......

And while you're bagging North coaches for letting players go thank Micky Nunan for giving us the Stringers, talk about handing us two premierships.....

Gee if you had the Stringers instead of us in 85-86 would have been three in a row for the club you [you] love....

Can you put the words "clutching, straws and at" in the same sentence? Barrie Robran didn't have the cattle when he took over and no one is saying he was a better coach than McDermott or that his record is better? "Bone" took over a good side that played poorly under Flynn in 1996 to the finals in 1997 and it proved to be lucky - as it was the players and not his coaching style or tactics but it was then downwards after 1997 as he managed to drive away or force a number of very good players out of Prospect - Squire, Sandford, Nunan, Gerke for starter. None of players that played for him post 1997 say very complimentary things about him or his coaching and communication skills.

As for getting rid of players you can add Adrian Rebbeck too if you want to go back even further and took a one legged Sandlands at the end of his career in return? Now if Bob Hammond had run that ball over the line in the dying seconds of the 73 grand final instead of keeping it in play then the bloke who picked it up and snapped it would not have done so and Cornes would have had no flags as a player.

At the end of the day you Glenelg supporters should be eternally grateful that the North Adelaide Football Club is in existence because if we were not, how many flags would your club have won - let me see ONE. No point in comparing clubs because despite your run of failed GF's through the late 60's into 1990 and 3 flags you won (coincidentally the same number we won in that time) - you have been a very average club over the journey in comparison to the NAFC - however you look at it.

unfortunately thse days footy has changed a bit
growing up on the SANFL, I loved to hate, Granger, Stringers, Salisbury, Mahony, Granger, Steven Sims, Tim Evans, outside the SANFL there was the bad boys of the VFL, Rhyse Jones, Jacko, Banks

whether you love them or hate them they brought colour to the game

I just hope that we do not totally lose this facet of the game, we need characters and we need collisions, it seems that Governing Bodies on all levels, National, State and regional leagues are doing everything in there powers to remove these elements from our game

Who, from the Glenelg side of the 80's, has turned out a coaching success? Andrew Jarman & Brenton Phillips are products of the North side of the 80's, & both successful coaches (Peter Simmons wasn't given the chance...). Perhaps the success lies in their mentor & his game plan- Nunan had one based on quick running & handball, Cornes relied on the strength of Glenelg list (ie an ape from the Zoo could've coached them)

One could argue that none of the Glenelg players from the '80s was given a fair chance at coach, let alone Simmo. Heck, McDermott was given a better chance to prove himself at North Adelaide than were any of the coaches at Glenelg in the '90s, including Mark Williams. Behind every successful coach is a supportive board!

Absolute rubbish, you're clutching at straws now, he inherited a finals side!

We came 4th in 1997 with 12 wins.
We came 4th with 13 wins in 1998.
Last in 1999 with 2 wins.
8th (thanks to Glenelg just holding us up but we did have a worse %) in 2000 with 3 wins.

Robran inherited a team that came 8th in 1977 and 1976.

And I'm sure even you can understand that we're having a crack at someone who almost destroyed the club as opposed to someone who won 2 premierships, comparing Nunan and McDermott is laughable.

We didn't play in the finals in 1998 otherwise I was watching the wrong North side???

Right you are, I just copy and pasted from Dion Haymans book and according to it North came 4th and 8th in 1998 but Norwood weren't in the comp!

Hey Tassie

Im just wonderin if you maybe just a bit to black and gold - like one eye black and the other gold

Glenelg - last recent premiers 1986 - now your 20 year anniversary since your last premiership and maybe your 20th coach - not sure on that talking about having great coaches because they come and go so easily down at the bay

North - last recent premiers 1991 - and maybe 5 coaches - not sure

And Im also not sure but have Centrals now won more premierships than Glenelg.

In a nut shell all clubs have some bad coaches - but really take a big hard look at your own back yard and probably even your front - hey

Guilty as charged - thanks for the compliment - is it that obvious

I thought one things about being a supporter of your club is that you stick up for your own I just made the observation that on the surface McDermott hasn't got the worst coaching record and isn't the only coach that gave away future premiership players at North

Just like Wedgie, Drebin, GORAW and Punky have, in no uncertain terms privided a stinging response to my statements (as expected I knew I was on a hiding to nothing but nothing ventured, nothing gained)

Always believed that if you give it out you have to take it. Unfortunately Glenelg's recent and GF record (that I am only too well aware of) means that I am more often than not "taking it"

Doesn't stop me from getting a few cheap shots in Scooter and Stringer style though - hey

Only wish I could do with the wit of REB and Booney

Play on....
