There is another thread if you want to discuss the incident. This thread is about the whole game.

I thought it was a great display of team footy. We tacked well our skills were good and we controlled the game for nearly all of the 4 quarters.

One of our great wins. Congratulations to Roy and the team.
We used to be good :-(

I was first wondering if it was mistaken identity and it should have been aimed at Howard (number 24) not Schubert (number 29). Howard stomped on Chris Gowans' face earlier in the match.
Cheers

That wasn't mistaken identity and the stomp on the head was accidental otherwise there would have been a dust up then and all the 5AA commentators after the game agreed that the Howard thing was accidental as per the tape again. The 5AA commentators were assuming it was a square up with KG defending Gowans until a few callers started to ring in and he started to chage his tune - I suspect someone told him how ugly it was. KG shortly after did admit he didn't see it properly and would have to watch the tape but why would he shot his mouth off if he didn't see it fully?. I think when he see's it he might not be so sympathetic after all he carried on like a luatic when Sims belted Simpson in 91 and this was as bad in terms of the king hit aspect. .

Was I was hoping to be a good game turned out to be YAWN material.. very disappointing IMO.

Highlight before the game: Catching up with a lot of my old regulars* whom I havent seen since quitting my bar job in the members....oh and meeting DW and Smac as well!

Highlight of the game: Ben Hart's tackle in front of the southern end goal in the first quarter.

What was with the yellow footy though??

Awesome day.

Got up and was ready to go about 3 hours before I was to leave home. As toey as a roman sandle from then onwards. Headed down to the cemetary to say g'day to my Pop. He was a little quiet.

The drive to the footy was great, went the long way, via Salisbury Hwy to enjoy the drive along with other dogs supporters heading from the North. Plenty of scarves and flags out the windows along the way.

Went for a beer with DW and FC (great to finally put faces to those names as well). Then as the game drew closer, back up to the members bar for a beer with Dad and a few other mates.

Finally the game started. I've seen a couple of posts mentioning various turning points in the game. For me, it was when the game started. Dogs looked primed from the first bounce, putting to rest any doubts about being "underdone" - if that were to have a bearing it would have been evident from the start.

Plenty of banter in the crowd, all in good fun and good humour throughout the first half. The second half seemed to lose the banter as the dogs put the foot down and take real control. Spent the last 15 minutes behind the goals, sensational stuff back there, a great feeling amongst the crowd.

A real even team effort, Chris was a worthy recipient of the Oatey medal (his second), Schell could consider himself unlucky that they don't issue 2 of them in a GF.

Then off for the traditional beers in the Crows bar (to let the traffic die of, of course!) followed by the equally traditional feast at fasta pasta port adelaide.

Home to put the kids to bed then back to the club for a top night, in bed by 3am and heading back to the club shortly.

What a great end to my Footy Park weekend! There twice in two days.

Glad you got to speak to your pop Smac. Good to catch up and meet your family.

Also good to see you FC - I've got to admit I had no idea who you were when you rocked up. I was half cut and it took a minute to figure it out. lol

Cas was a good place to start the day. A few waker upperers. Problem was we got to ground later than expected - so didn't get to head around to the other bars to meet people.

The taxi ride revealed something - $30 from the city! That's a reason alone why the ground should be in Adelaide.

I spent much of the game with the end to enders, where I caught up with Bulldog Pommy. Good to see ya again mate, owe you a beer. The atmosphere at the northern end at half time, three quarter time and in the last term was sensational.

Enjoyed the last 10 minutes at the southern end, where I managed to get a spot on the fence for some pics. Which I'll post on here later.

Finished the night at 1am when my cousin kindly dropped me off home. It had been a big day!
You're my only friend, and you don't even like me.

Does anyone know the official capacity of AO? I ask that because the worse nightmare would be having a GF there and have to turn people away when they would have fit into AAMI. I'm pretty sure if Norwood or Port made it the crowd would be more than 35k, and the two would probably get 40k. IMHO the SANFL won't close the door until either AO has a 40k+ capacity or they give up on that sort of crowd.

Just looking at the game stats in the paper it seemed to be one of the most even team performances I've seen for a while. It seemed very much that every player did a job and none really tore the game apart.

Adelaide Oval is about 30 000 (33 000 when they put in the temporary seating for the cricket). However, once it goes above 25 000 it starts getting very uncomfortable and cramped if you're on the hill.
They don't keep me here because I'm gorgeous and 5'10

When the refit of Adelaide Oval is complete - 2009 i think - the total will go from the present 32000 to 37000.

Well done to the Dogs, just far too good all year.

North had to make the most of their chances early in the second to have any chance.

Very reminiscent of 00 and 01 when the Dogs just somthered and shut down the opposition scoring.

Crowd? All right, but nothing extra special, esp after we'd been hearing all week how good it was to have a different match-up in the GF.

Good point about taking chances, North have actually had an issue with it most of the year, even when we flogged Port at Alberton we kicked a ridiculous amount of points, definately something that needs to be worked on.

Pretty sure when they fix the members stand and the northern end by 2009 it will hold 40,000, there was an article about it a while back.

The project has been downsized since the original proposal.

Dogs were always more likely to control the game later given their fresher legs. North might have been able to eek an early advantage given the dogs may have been a little rusty and kicking with the breeze was a big bonus. North really had to get a good early burst and have a handy lead at quarter time. Once the dogs led at quarter time it was nigh on impossible for the roosters.

I'm not sure whether I like the idea of the game moving. I see the advantages, but on the other hand it's the SANFL's flagship venue and the GF is now the only chance SANFL players get to play there.

LBJ23 only have money for Western side stand, change room upgrade, extra dining and corporate areas. We've been informed is now 37000. Possibly a second stage in the plans to go higher later on?
