Yeah I was initially surprised initially that Henry was preferred to Wagner but I guess NZ expected the pitch to not be this flat. You'd think he'll definitely play in the third test now.

It seems to be working yes but i'm no expert but like a lot of other people I don't understand how Wagner can't get a game for the Kiwis. He just has that knack of taking wickets. Tim Southee had a very poor game too. I heard somewhere he was just the sixth player in history to have bowling figures that was wicketless and concede more than a 150 runs in an innings.

Apparently the most boundaries in a test match ever and the outfield was certainly lightning fast.

Yes, that was the most runs scored from boundaries in a test match, 1044.
The previous highest was 976 between Australia and India in Sydney in 2004.

They got thrashed in Australia coz the series was played here , more than most other factors
Any side that has Stokes, Root, Anderson, Broad[ and now Bairstow] is not the worst ever
If they can get the The Joff Archer and Mark Wood fit how good can they be
England have a BIG population and will no doubt re-generate even after the fast bowling duo of Stewy and Jimmy call it a day

They also appear to have a very good keeper batsman , but I will wait for wicket keeping guru analyst Ambays opinion on Foakes

I think this game more or less improves the hypothesis presented by bulldog WHUFC

I know England were terrible over here but I honestly think we can under estimate the impact of all the covid travel, isolations, no tour games etc. I don't think England would have ever won the series over here but the preparation was horrendous through no fault of their own.

The next series in England will be a much closer affair especially if England have a fit Mark Wood and maybe Archer.

The big story is the fall from grace for the kiwis. Have won 2 tests lost 5 test this championship and are sitting third to bottom.

There is a definitely a momentum shift happening in world cricket regarding fourth innings runs. Imo T20 cricket has seen an evolution of the game with batsmen now becoming 360 players......this transferable skill to test cricket has seen batsmen improve and revolutionise at a much quicker rate than bowlers in test cricket. We already spinners tweaking the bowl both ways, we already saw slower balls, we already saw accurate short pitching bowling before t20 was on the scene. The main 'skill' that has come into T20 cricket from bowlers has been slower ball bouncers and setting fields to genuinely bowl one side of the wicket. They haven't had anywhere near as a big an impact to test cricket as the development of batsmen have.....eg playing 360, confidence to go at 7,8,9 an over for a short period, 8,9,10 batsmen who are more than capable to hold up an end and defend a game if the top order fail, the list goes on. This has also been assisted by pitches that don't seem to break up anywhere near as much.

I disagree - England were pathetic technically, physically, mentally. We thrashed them because of the enormous difference in class between teams.

Combine all the factors presented by RB and the home team advantages = why Australia mauled England last tour

In test cricket over a great many years the home team is generally at a degree of advantage
