Who Is Disliked More! Smith or Nel?

Postby Scooby » Tue Mar 28, 2006 3:42 pm

Fair enough Andre Nel will run in all day and bowl his heart out BUT he made a complete D#$%d of himself last night.. When a batsman hits you for 22 in an over you grab you hat and get the F*&K down to fine leg as quick as possible. To bag Gilly like he did shows he is a absolute tosser who has lost any respect the Aussies had for him.. I hope we belt the living suitcase out of them tonite.

As for Smith he needs more runs and less mouth..

Neither of them are good enough to be disliked. Smith's batting average against Australia equals the amount Nel was spanked for by an out of form Gilly last night. Save your hatred for players who might actually hurt Australia one day. South Africa are a joke of the highest order.

100% agree with you REB. The way this test match, and the first have unfolded, you could say that Sth Africa put up a better show so far when they played over here. So much for the "we'll get them when we're at home" mentatilty....

Graeme Smith's not making a lot of runs but I think he looks to be a Test quality batsman. He's a mouth, but the press keep asking him for comments. Nel on the other hand is all mouth, and very little ability to back it up. I dislike players who think they are far better than they are. Nobody minds a mouth if they are prepared to put the score on the board. Smith hasn't but could ... Nel IMHO never will.

As I said before I don't mind Nels attitude (mind not like) it is his game, bluff and buster to get them out. You have to give him one thing he keeps charging in and will do the hard yards. However he keeps stepping over that fine line between aggrevating players into getting them out and looking like a tool.

1st thing I learnt playing with men was when you are getting smashed you shut the **** up, to paraphrase Kenny Rodgers,
There plenty of time for [talking] when the [battles] won.

When you get them out/hit them/smash them to the boundary have a chat, until then shut the **** up

Especially when you are a novice (Nel) against a "pro" Gilchrist - show some respect. You don't see the Aussies having a crack at Pollock
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

What about the trifecta with Tony Grieg - he is giving me the absolute shits with his parochial arse licking off all things Afrikaners - hell didn't he remember he bailed out become an overnight Pom and has lived and "sponged" off Australia since 1978! I even contemplated sending an email to Ch. 9 attention to Eddie to please cancel his contract and tell him to stay in his "homeland".

Yes tas but pollock is a different type of person. But i do get the point you are making about the fact that pollock has earned respect in his carrer.

Although he is not a tool, nel is a tool.

The thing I dislike most of all about Greig is the way he's always on about the way the Aussies conduct themselves on the field (sledging, not walking, etc). Those of us who saw Greig play appreciate that he carried on far worse than any current Australian I've seen, and he would blatantly appeal for things that were clearly not out. He was one of the worst behaved cricketers in my memory and yet he complains about others. Bag your head Greigy.

Very true AH - he served it up to Thommo and Lillee in 1974 and came off well second best and IMO never recovered from it - although the poms were desperate and made him Capt after we destroyed Mike Denness' career.

Pair of sooks. Hope Ponting's supremacy over Smith gets him sacked and Nel should really achieve something before he starts belittling legends of the game. Is just a total tool.

The parochialism last night (most I've tuned in) was unbelievable, and not just on the Box, even the boofheads on the radio were at it ... All I heard about was ... Excessive appealing by the Aussies, bad decisions by the umpires (definitely some wrongful dismissals, but there were clear outs not given also). the unacceptbale allowance of medium pacers with dwindling light, the fact that they were still even on the ground in that light blah, blah blahdy blah .. All incidentals in an attempt to mask the true gap (something the SAfricans just can't seem to admit) between the teams ... I mean I cringe when I see the Aussies act like whingers when things don't go their way, but I think we look somewhat tame in comparison!

Then at the death knell for the commentators to insinuate the target was very gettable for the SAfricans because they had still made 300 was ridiculous ... HELLO - We had ALL the fielders in, we made no attempt to stop boundaries in an effort to keep batsmen on strike, we weren't bowling our quicks much because of the light -I think the best thing the South Africans can do is give themselves a truly honest appraisal, and compare themselves truthfully against the best teams to better address their deficiencies!

Well said CP - spot on. I did a combination of listening on the radio whilst on hear last night plus watching the replays whenthe wickets fell. I did watch the last 2 hrs on TV and I was so angry.

Then when I went to work this morning one of my work associates who is a South African - based in J'berg but over here this week started on about the umpiring, the sledging, bringing up the last one dayer etc etc. As soon as I mentioned everything you mentioned CP boy did he get the shits on. His final statement was that Nel is good for the game and is no where near as excessive as Warne and wait for it - Gilly and Lee! I shook my head and walked away in disgust.

Sorry to be long winded (as usual) but I was listening to an overseas BBC report on the match and the English journalist doing the report thought that there were no real issues with the light and that SA were looking for any excuse to save the match and pouted and used wide eyed stares and histrionics when batting near the end (and they accuse us of "intimidating" the umpires!). He also said that on SA's last tour to England they played in far darker conditions and didn't mind serving it up when they were winning over there and playing well into the evening sessions.

I say bring in Tait for the last test in place of Kaspa (who was ordinary) and bounce, intimidate and soften them up for Warney to finsih them off. zip-3 for the home side would look good after the gobbing off Smith and to a lesser extent Boucher did pre-series.

I had to piss myself laughing at the hystrionics of Tony Greig last night (and Barry Richards may well have been a champion batsmen but **** he's annoying behind the mic.) ... With the clock ticking and the Seth Africans battling valiantly to salvage a draw from the game, Warney approaches .. Let's rip and bang, it thuds into the pads ... The Aussies go up in unison sternly appealing for the Leg Before Wicket .. Before they've even made it up for the appeal Greigy is half shouting "Oh no that's pitched outside the line, it's pitched outside the liiiiinnnnnnnnnne!!"

LOL .. that probably doesn't capture the situation properly but I'm sure anyone else who saw it would have had a chuckle over it ..

Totally agree, Tony Greig is an absolute tool.. I don't have much of an opinion on Eddie McGuire but now that he is Channel 9 head honcho, if he can remove Tony from our TV during the summer I might just start to like him...
Most of the Seth Efrican commentators are shockers, although don't mind Allan Donald and Haysman ( suppose ex SA boy thats why)

Good luck to Langer who plays his 100th test in JoBurg.. A real battler who has won my respect, whilst he never makes batting look easy his record speaks for itself..

Unless it's a different one - it was "Inside edge - INSIDE EDGE!" ... made my laugh - so quick to defend.

i started almost this exact same thread a couple of months ago when south africa were out here. and in that thread i totally bagged nel. saying that he was far worse than smith. but since this tour of south africe began, i've had i total change of heart. Nel is still a tosser and a dickhead.. but now i have to admit, smith is far worse. Ever since that toss called the aussie chokers, that was the clincher for me.

When is technology going to reach the stage where one day you'll be able to teleport your fist though a screen and punch people on the other side, because smith would be coping a belting from me if that was possible.
