You precious Bay supporters have to lower your expectations!
I’ve been recently and it was ok food.
I had very little expectations so that probably helped.

I’d go back.

Had a run up to Murray Bridge yesterday and dropped into the Palmer pub for lunch on the way back. No booking but they found us a table, surprised how bust it was. I had a half beef snitty with gravy, Mrs had the crumbed flathead (one piece). Both meals were excellent, schnitzel plenty big enough for me, nice crumb, gravy was gravy, bit of salad fresh and nicely dressed, the flathead looked really nice but she guarded it to well for me to get a taste. Both meals had an abundance of fresh hot chips. I washed mine down with a portergaff, herself a diet coke (what is this Dry July thing?).

Cost was about $50, very reasonable, add another $15ish to have the full size snitty and two pieces of fish. Will definitely drop in again, highly recommended.

While I'm in this board, does anyone have an issue with how bacon is cooked at breakfast dine in restaurants/cafes? Most places seem to serve it up like warm ham, worst example of which was the Vili's joint on NE Rd. Was barely warm, the fat was still white, no colour at all in the meat. Waitress looked at me blankly when I pointed it out.
I asked a waitress at another place and she told me it is "cooked to industry standard". I just wonder if that's how they cook it at home.

Bespoke Restaurant - Adelaide Oval

We took up the $250 Winter Warmer AO Hotel package which includes $100 to spend in the Bespoke Restaurant.

After strolling up and down the mall watching cracktivities in between popping in and out of shops for her and bars for me ( Belgian Beer Bar, Austral, Richmond, Little Pub ) we put the feet up in the room before dinner.

Entree - Sourdough for two and pork belly. Sour dough was warm and fresh, the pork belly was crispy on the skin, well rendered in the middle, salty sweet and the apple slaw crisp and tart. Stone and Wood Pacific Ale and a rose.

Mains - I went the 300g rump (marble score 8-9) with red wine jus, she went the garlic and herb chicken breast. We shared sides of carrots, broccoli and baby potatoes. The rump, ordered medium, was more like well and we made mention but didn't take up the offer to return it as I was ok with it as it was. More I couldn't be arsed waiting for another one. The chicken was moist and a good size. The carrots with some honey and sesame, the spuds with sour cream and chives, the broccoli with almond shards. All very nicely cooked and presented. Turkey Flat Butchers Block GSM for the steak and another Rose.

Upon ordering the pudding, ice cream and toffee shard dessert we were advised there would be no charge for this as the steak wasn't too satisfaction.

$100 voucher meant we were only $138 out of pocket

Ambiance - 9/10 Over looking the softly lit Portress
Service - 6.5/10 Over attentive, asked us twice while eating entree if we were ready to order mains
Over all - 7.5/10 For the price I'd be more willing to go to a nice pub and save $100.

Pellegrini Cafe - North Adelaide

BIG BREAKFAST! Thick cut smoky bacon well cooked, fat meaty sausage* with lots of garlic punch, big hash brown, massive grilled tomato, good serving of mushrooms, small ( well played ) seperate bowl of baked beans with two pieces of toast and two poached eggs. $29, really good value. I had a coffee in the room so no rating. Mrs Boon had bacon and eggs and as I did enjoyed the smoky bacon. Her latte was a good size, hot and she noted it was a good coffee.

Ambiance - 8/10 Was a bit quiet on a Sunday at 10am but just enough atmosphere
Service - 9/10 Took the orders then f*cked off before coming back with the food in a prompt manner
Over all - 8.5/10, I'd be back in a jiffy it I lived local

I'm at the other end of the spectrum, I don't like crispy bacon, I generally opt for short cut bacon.

I'm actually a bit of a bah humbug as far as breakfast is concerned, the ex used to always suggest going out for breakfast but I'd twist it and insist on doing a lunch or dinner, I find most places are so over-priced in comparison to what you could make at home, I can't justify $50+ for a couple of strips of bacon along with a few skerrick's of sides with a coffee or two.

The new GF tends to agree with me, we go all out for breakfasts on weekends and try to outdo each other depending on who's house we're at.

Next time you're in MB go to McCues bakery and grab a savoury slice, you won't be disappointed, they are the bomb!!! You can grab a 4 pack to go too.

I make my own bacon at home and the supermarket loin roast gets crispy real quick if you're not careful. Have lost a couple of pieces that charred up too much!

Depending on the type of bacon it should be precooked during the smoking process. The 2nd cook just renders the fat and warms it up again

Charlie's at Brighton

First time in probably 15yrs.
The food was probably 5/10. Expected from a buffet.
The winner for me was the mint ice cream followed by a trip down memory lane, although this was a poor man's version of the Frog in a Pond that I used to have at Red Apple many years ago

All that talk you just had to go.

Was the frog in a pond a Freddo in jelly?

1: What food was a let down to warrant a 5?
2: I must say, I also grabbed the Freddo in jelly, didn't eat the frog but heaped up the jelly with whipped cream, chocolate mousse and a brownie though.

Just had lunch at BrewBoys on Regency Road.

Service:
Beer service 10/10; the blokes behind the bar would emerge to collect empties but scurried back quickly whenever anyone made a motion towards the bar.
Food service 5/10: Didn't handle the crowd so well. Most of us (a group of 30-something) pre-ordered but the food still came out in dribs and drabs. The lasses in the kitchen seemed to be well under the pump. Would be improved by a video system displaying the numbers of orders as they came ready, rather than screaming numbers out in a high pitch.

Quality:
Beer 9/10. First beer was a bright ale? which was fairly standard. Second beer was a stout - and this was the duck's nuts. Plenty more beers to sample, even a ginger ale, which was well appraised by my compatriots.
Food 5/10. Took the healthy option: a salad with grilled chicken. Lettuce, corn, beans, onion, guacamole, all just dumped on the plate. Chicken not sliced all the way through. Filling for what it was though. Other folks had burgers which looked passable, and bowls of wings which were very large.

Value:
Beer 8/10. Not cheap but I've paid more. Take home cartons all less than $100, even for the stout - I've seen higher prices elsewhere.
Food 7/10. It wasn't haute cuisine but wasn't priced like it either.

Ambience 7/10. Was a bit noisy but we were the problem here; would be much better with small groups, which I imagine is what they typically get.

Overall not bad; would go back for a few brews, provided no large groups were present. Very good at its core business (the beer); I s'pose

All foods were just average across the buffet.
Roast beef, butter chicken probably best of the hot food, lemon chicken, sweet n sour pork, Singapore noodles, sticky date rubber I mean pudding

Nanna turns 90 next Sunday.

She's decided she wants Chinese for her birthday. She doesn't really eat that much at night anymore so we're looking for a nice Chinese place to do lunch.

SO you think we can find any decent chinese restaurants open for Sunday lunch?
