Not upset at all about not getting Clarke, wouldn't have him in our best 21 for next year imho, Torney would be nice though....I always get worried around this time of year when i here about other teams singing players and nothing happening with us, but if we can recuit four or five gems like last year i'll be happy, just would love to see us sign them up sooner..

Clarke's not a ruckman!

Parry/Doyle meant one of them, not both.

17 players gone...maybe they would'nt take a pay cut?Maybe Jack went thru current contracts & realised how overpayed these blokes have been?If so their the blokes you dont want anyway. They may rate themselves, but they'll realise with the next club they go 2 how over-rated & spoilt alot of them were. Some would'nt get a kick in amateurs! Also South have 2 free up $$$ somewhere 2 pay Jacks BIG SUM!

South have begun steps to do something concrete about dealing with the losing culture that makes up South Adelaide. The blunt facts are that for way to long the club has been made up of players that dont care a stuff about or respect the jumper and the colours of the club.

A number that either leave or are cut when looked into you will discover are players that have lost their position in matches in a regular basis, so if the club did keep the list intact, we are not going to improve. If other SANFL clubs feel that those players are worth having in their sides and you feel that they will give you 100% passion for the jumper, good luck with that!

A number of decisions that are being made now are decisions that we should have made several years ago. yet I am reminded that we did finish bottom in 63, then went on to win the Premiership, so there is every chance that by making the hard decisions we are a very good chance of becoming a lot more competitive side in 2008!

These days you can't afford to wait till after the draft otherwise you're just left with the dregs or players in positions you don't need.
I'd say that most clubs would only want to be entering the market after draft time if some players got drafted that they need to replace.
Things are a lot different to 10 years ago.

Sorry mate but don't totally agree with you there Central who have undoubtably recruited the best in the last ten years, have a very strong policy of not recruting players until after the draft is done. They may have a short list of 10 guys and have spoken to them before the draft but they don't actually sign til after.

A players attitude after missing out on the draft may completely change depending on the character of the person, as well as a players ambition.

It also dangerous in the fact that every year there is between 5-10 real quality players who somehow miss out on being drafted al la Grima, Callinan, Jimmy Allen, if you have done all your recruiting already you have no salary cap room to make a play at them, not only missing out on the quality player but also enabaling rival teams to pick them up at better prices due to less bidding.

I would also think that if you recruit to early you will be really relying on the draft going the way your sources have informed you, if this doesn't happen clubs can be left with gaping holes in the side and not being able to recruit to fill them. Or hyperthetically in the NAFC case, Coulter and Schubert have a change of heart in the next month get a better offer in country or amauter football and leave north, they would then be left a huge whole in defense and would struggle to recruit anyone as all the other clubs would have been putting months of relations and management into the same guys already.

Schubert and Coulter will be losses if they move on but looking at the expected in's - Sam Hunt, Matt Davis and possibly Daniel Ward to add to Sporn, McIntyre and Clarke who could play back or on the wing. We may also yet land another hard at it ex AFL half back flanker (money is the sticking point at this stage) and we will or should have a good defensive unit. Throw in Gallman, Brett White (if he can get fit) and you can also expect Wintle to play on the hbf then I don't think defense will be an issue in all honesty.

Where's all this free salary cap room coming from, remember Hart signed because of the love for the club, Howard was a reject at west and just wanted to play SANFL and im sure guys like Cubillo and co who may get drafted weren't getting paid in gold bars either. And Allen would have a fair case of asking for a better deal this year.

A serious question is which players are taking pay-cuts so they can fit all these guys in?

No im asking a serious question, im not saying North are cheating the salary cap but even you would have to admit to fit everyone in some players must be taking a decent size pay-cut. In all seriousness Dash which players do you think this may be.

Remember, there are other costs but its the 21 who hit the field and A few on $1500-$2000 a game take a big cut but when they have the lesser lites like Krieg etc they would balance out your match fees. I do think Krieg is a good player, im just using him as an example, Wundke, Krieg, Kaesler, Cubillo,Wright , crows and power players soon would lower your game day payments, Lonie, Perrie, White, Gallman, McIntyre all are on a lower set payment from the club,,,, in the end it balances and hart like walsh at westies derive payment from being assistant coaching

If we posted on here how much a KPP Grand Final player got paid - you would take the hat around out of sympathy and quickly work out there is lot's of room in the cap at North!
