I guess the common them is it doesn't matter where you start, just start somewhere.
My 1st priority would be a massoinette in Kilburn.
My 2nd would be a masoinette in Salisbury North.

We're selling up-graded maisonettes in "Hawksbury Park", Salisbury North for around the $180k mark at present. Most have polished floors, new bathrooms, separate showers, new laundries, new toots, new kitchens, new carports, l/scaping etc., etc. Just get something, before it's too late.

P R; when I was looking for somewhere to buy and live in earlier this year it was all pretty stressful ('pretty' being a euphemism for outrageously/shockingly etc etc). But I have to agree with just about everything that's been written so far in this thread; to start with, get something that is liveable, even though it won't be perfect. Later, you can improve it, or sell for something else, or even hold onto it and rent it out.

But it just seems like affordability is getting worse and worse. Even trying to save like mad for an extra year to have a bigger deposit isn't worth it; the difference in the price you'll most likely have to pay a year from now will be a lot more than the amount you can save.

Good luck, P R. The looking/buying takes a huge amount of time, money and stress, but after you move in, it's definitely worth it.

My first house in SA was a 1950s 2-bedroomer in Vale Park, and my last a 35 square job on Delfin Island, with private lake front - only kept it 12 months as we didn't really like it there, and rented in the Adelaide Hills before moving to Melbourne.

The market in Melbourne is booming again, but prices are falling in the UK.

Just under 7 yrs ago, I brought one of these houses, moved from Port Adelaide, to buy my own home. It cost $72,000 and I thought that was over the top.
Now they have gone up so much I am lucky and I am building the house that I will enjoy living in and I can keep the old house as an invesment. Best move I ever made and never had any trouble here, not like the long list at the Port.

Salisbury North has been very good for me and if you need a start it's not that far out of town.

Can't be that bad, after all, I was born there!
