A weather station in Liawenee (Tasmania ) registered a minimum temperature of -12.9 degrees shortly after 6am this morning.

Las Vegas set a new record on Wednesday as it marked a fifth consecutive day over 115F (46C), amid a lingering hot spell that will continue scorching much of the US into the weekend.

The blazing hot temperatures climbed to 115F shortly after 1pm at Harry Reid international airport, breaking the old mark of four consecutive days above 115F set in July 2005.

The brutal milestone marks yet another record for the Nevada desert city this week: on Sunday, Las Vegas hit an all-time high of 120F (48.8C). Even by desert standards, the prolonged baking the city is experiencing is nearly unprecedented.

Last July while I was there it hit 117 and that was their then record.
Looks like it will be a little cooler for my next trip in August.

When I drove from LA to Las Vegas it we left low 20's in LA into 40+ in Vegas, weird thing was on mountains nearby there was snow!

There is a 100 mile ultra marathon in America this time of year, where they start in the high country in Olympic Valley, California, where there is snow at the top of the escarpment, then through the middle of the race in the canyons its not uncommon to reach mid to high 30 deg C.

Looks like really narrow bands at the moment that will hit one suburb and miss the next.

Rain Parrot telling me that we were getting a belting 20 mins ago, but pretty much missed us.

Definitely a good lightning show looking out to the South West

Misses the Port regularly, looks like most of it is South of Grange.

Can confirm most of it is south of O'Halloran Hill... we're still getting the edge of it.

Much more wide spread across the metro area in the bands coming through later tonight - no one will miss.
