Kind of have to go with Border.

He starred at a time when he had to face universally agreed the greatest bowling attack in history.

He did it in a team that struggled and wasnt protected by superstars above him.

At one point in time he was the worlds leading ever run scorer in test cricket

Statistically Smith has been phenomenal no matter what you think of him as a human.

Border and S Waugh I thought were 2 and 3 till Smith come along.

Greg Chappell for mine. Fantastic batsman and a large percentage of his innings were against world class attacks.

Border has to go close as well, for that reason. Ponting at his best was as good as any. Smith in the 2019 Ashes was phenomenal. But yeah still Greg Chappell for me.

I loved that my first proper cricket bat was a Gray Nicholls Greg Chappell scoop. Not that it helped me in any way, shape or form.

I'd have him in a bit front of Border, loved that both of these superstars were baseballers in their younger years.

Gilly was elite in all forms of the game.

I love sitting back watching highlight packages of him on You Tube

His batting goes with him as he is a very laid back type of individual, love his commentary as well

Probably sits in my Top 5 or 6

I was too young to see Greg Chappell and really only caught the back end of Allan Border, so my ‘best since Border’, just, is Ponting in front of Smith. The two standouts.

Gilchrist only scored tons in innings where another bat scored a ton, does that count against him?

If someone was batting for my life I'd take Border, and Waugh.
For pure elegance Chappell.
To win me a game Ponting, Gilly and Hayden.

Oops forgot Smith.
If I want someone to save a game it's him.

I don't think he's quite in that league.......close.
I rate him more as a captain.
Imo one of our best tactically.
