It's a VERY similar situation to Panther land at the moment.

Pfft, sorry Smithy, Blight had more chance of pushing a pound of butter up a parrots ar5e than winning a flag at Woodville. Those players just weren't good enough to beat the likes of Port, North, lenelg and Norwood in the late 80s.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

They did go fairly close in 86, 80TM, obviously your mob won it that year but the Warriors had a fair side and certainly cleaned Port up in that final fairly comprehensively. Andrew Taylor, Andrew Rogers, Haylock, Fuller, Panizza, Klemm etc etc.

Pfft if we got out of third gear, we were NEVER going to lose that game.....

GWW yeah they were a fair side my point was in response to Smithy if Blight had stayed at Woodville and from 88 to 90 their was a real gulf between North, Norwood, Port and Glenelg and the other six clubs. If he'd stayed no way would they have got close to a flag.

The main reason for my point was that Woodville went from easy beats to finals participants.
No one said Woodville would've won a premiership.
I'd say it was a good decision by Blighty and it could work next season at Pantherland if indeed it happens.

It didnt do that club any harm..

Well it worked for us at North as well when jarman started as coach in 2004 he showed the door to about i think 21 - 23 players and we have played in the finals in the last 3 years.

I heard Peter Schwarze on 5AA's 'where are they now' and he admitted that the 86 Warriors played way above themselves ..... exciting as it was at the time.

Definitely a very good side but the last 10 weeks of 1986 was a purple patch of rare form & confidence that almost got them into a GF. They only beat Port by 7 points in the 1st semi, one of the great finals of all time.

But by 87 the bubble had burst a little bit and they went out in the Elim which turned out to be their last final as the WFC. From then on (until 1990) they were a solid outfit but couldn't find their way back into the top 5. So to say a Premiership was there for the taking if Blighty stayed is optimistic IMO ... but we'll never know for sure!

Cornesy still says that if not for 1 or 2 errros late in the 86 Prelim the Warriors could have got up FWIW. The Bays then went on and thrashed us a week later :(
In between signatures .....

I went to the 86 GF and North were horrible that day. What could have been.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

Having seen all of Souths Sunday games last season ,and a number of others that did not conflict with watching my own lads play, after perusing the budget from the last minor round game honestly there is not twenty one players worth keeping.

What's happening at South..?

Well it is my considered opinion that the club is purging itself of overated, overpaid underperforming hacks, and its well overdue. Most of those departing are departing because they know they will not survive under the new regime. The new regime will demand loyalty to the club and their teamates, pride and sacrifice.
Unfortunately those leaving havent the spine to stick around and have a crack for a change. They have taken their money and departed the scene and now will start afresh with no doubt a handsome salary to boot. The gig is up so to speak, and its about time too. There will be more names come to light in the ensuing weeks as well, and as far as I am concerned all I can say to whoever picks them up is -good luck!- you'll need it.
Some of those leaving played a prime role in getting Pyman the sack, perhaps they could have channelled their energies more in an onfield role ,instead of sooking around and bitching , and white anting the coach and the club to anyone who would listen.
To see a couple of them embarass themselves at the Knuckey Cup presentation in the manner befitting the fools that they are really capped off a year they can be proud of.

As many changes off field as on field my spies tell me...

Seriously, if South has another lousy year in 2008 i fear they will be left with about 25 supporters and 3 volunteers in 2009
