Jaques has a better strike rate in the tests and one dayers he has played thus far and is noted for his scoring rate. He's 4 years younger than Katich. I think Katich has been tried and tried and yet to come up to standard. Time to give someone else a go while we still have good cover with Hayden and Gilchrist not far from the end and Hussey and Ponting in great form.

He made about 180 in a session a few days ago. If that's not bullying i don't know what is.

I think Katich and his supporters are going to live off that 306 all season :D

I just can't get past my memory of him scratching and shuffling around and looking completely non-threatening v England 2005.

Another 300 and he'll be knocking on the door tho .... at least to get a new contract

I remember a bloke called Langer scratching around and looking completely non-threatening in 2001. He then got recalled (despite the fact he shouldn't have been) for the last Test against England. He was out plumb LBW off the third ball of that match but given not out. The rest is history.

And how many of those international players will be playing in the Moo Moo and the Franger this year joker? I have watched Katich bat at the domestic level and he does bully attacks at this level. He scored 80 against WA (the top Franger Cup side currently) and averages 178 so far in the Moo Moo. Let the bullying continue.

LMAO. Plenty of players who will be lining up in Brisbane were shuffling around and looking completely non-threatening against England in 2005. Simon Jones, Freddie Flintoff and even Stephen Harmison were making that Duke toy talk on those seaming home decks. Why do you think we lost the series? VERY selective memories there.

When an SA batsman scores 306, you'll be 'living off it all season' as well I suspect...but it would be hard to hold a grudge against Dizzy so I'll happily join in the praise.

Oh dear yourself. Get yourself Fox and actually WATCH some bloody Cricket. Katich is averaging 178 in the extended form of the game so far this season and is FORM. You are thinking of the Katich who held up our progress at the start of every one day international he played in while he drove us all (me included) to distraction, or one of the unconvincing top six of England 2005.

I am talking about this year's model, who on home decks against Sri Lanka and India could well do a 'Justin Langer' type of renaisscance and do a good job at the top of the order. There are a lot of similarities in Langer and Katich's games and I believe that Katich, like Langer can learn to become more agressive as he recently showed at the G. I'm happy for Jaques but in a recent match I watched, Katich outbatted him easily on a night when they both made runs.

Katich is better technically in my view and is also a much better fieldsmen. Jaques has played two tests so not much statistical value there and we are talking about the test side here and not the one dayers so strike rate in this format of the game is irrelvant. I know that they won't pick Katich (thank god says NFC  ) but to me if you are going to replace Justin Langer it would be best to pick the best available player who is most like him. Almost a horses for courses thing.

Katich may well get another chance, but for now it's time to give someone else a go. Sometimes at test level the most brilliant first class cricketer can go terribly (Hick) and sometimes the worst can just find it works for them, and it's far from rare to find someone with a higher test average than first class average. Jacques has made mountains of rund in the last few seasons while Katich simply didn't do enough to hold his spot. When (and if) he gets his next chance (and it may well be in less than a year if Jacques doesn't work out) I hope he does take it this time. However, the system the selectors have in place of making a bloke score runs for 3 years before giving them a chance, then recycling those players through the team until they cement their spot seems to work beautifully. S. Waugh, Ponting, Langer, Martyn and severl others are examples of blokes who were dropped but came back better players for it.

Good point but I'd suggest that Katich has backed up the form I witnessed by him in the Franger Cup.
