Wouldn’t think it would matter with a 6.. if you ran a quick single and the ball was caught, it would still be out.. so I suspect a 6 would still be a 6.

I stand corrected but I somehow think this rule or at least the interpretation of it may have changed after several years of ODI cricket which of course then needs to be consistently applied across all forms. If scores were tied and a player hit the winning run the fielders wouldn't often even bother retrieving the ball from where it came to rest or not bother chasing it if it ended up trickling into the boundary. So it was decided that the ball/game was 'dead' once the batters completed the run/runs needed for victory.

I'm on board with that if the ball doesn't reach the boundary. But I still can't grasp a situation where a team is 9 down with 1 needed to win and the striker is on 98. If he creams a straight drive but can't be sure if deep mid off will cut it off so takes off and completes the run before it hits the rope then under the current interpretation he is denied his 100. What if he crosses but doesn't quite make his crease at the non-strikers end when it touches the rope. Is simply crossing with your partner classed as completing the run before it goes to the boundary or do you have to make your ground at the other end? With 4 overthrows it's just crossing that gets classed as the first run counting to give you 5. So how does it work for the winning runs scenario? Do we have to go to DRS to see if his score ends up as 99 or 102???

And as Bedge pointed out - does a 6 differ from a 4 in this situation. We can't even say anymore that a 6 occurs the moment it crosses the apex of the rope because we know you can still get caught in that situation with the player throwing the ball back into play before the foot is grounded. So is the 6 only completed once it hits the seats in the 2nd tier if it's that big of a hit.

A 6 would be once either one of two things happen????:

1. The ball lands outside of the rope.
2. A player has his hands on the on the ball whilst any body part is touching outside the rope.

Obviously Hazlewood's side strain wasn't that bad? I'm surprised he's come back in given his injury history so hopefully he's good to go.

Nothing better than an old fashioned washout.

Too bad we didn't have the highlights from the Windies and the Pakis.
