Is there an oval redevelopment or something happening up there?

Yeah changerooms are being re-done. Was supposed to start last year and completed during the cricket season ready for footy, but the council are useless.

Expected to commence in March now, and we still have no idea on timeframes, but also we haven't been provided any visibility over what facilities will be provided during the construction - or where they'll go.

League were supportive in fixturing us away as we really don't know what to expect, but I'd suspect the entire bottom section will be an exclusion zone.

It's frustrating because it'll impact our ability to generate income we usually would get through canteen / BBQ etc.. we don't know what we will do with Jnrs either, however they don't start until end of April / May, but they are our greatest source of revenue for senior footy in terms of canteen sales etc.

Bottom line is we really are in the dark right now.

p.s. means trial game vs Salisbury will likely be moved..

That's a poor effort by the council.

Nah, think it's more a reflection on the strength of those clubs too be honest - and whilst a tough season for some of us teams, it's a great opportunity to develop, improve and ultimately understand the level and depth we need to get to as a club if we want to be good in the future.

Sure, strength at the top and much of the time that stems from a strong junior program.

Then comes the challenge of retaining those juniors once they become seniors and other clubs come knocking with a bag of money.

Trials upcoming:
Ingle Farm vs Salisbury
Houghton vs Birdwood
West Croydon vs Mallee Districts
Para Hills vs Elizabeth
Rosewater vs Brahma Lodge
Fitzroy vs Greenacres
Para Hills vs Gaza (29th March)

Trials concluded:
St Paul's looked good against Virginia despite missing a few.
Fitzroy slow starters against Portland but stormed home. Too much quality.
Ingle Farm salvaged a hard fought draw with Bute when their match was cancelled,
West Croydon were destroyed by Brahma Lodge.. and I mean destroyed.

We'll be lucky to get within 4 goals - struggling to fill an A grade at the moment - boat cruises, work, holidays, bucks shows, cricket trip, injuries.. it's a **** joke. :(

Doesn't matter how many times you tell players or notice you give.. they still don't listen "Aww I thought the season started end of April" FML

And then you'd tell the players in March/April that the Long Weekend in June isn't a week off and 40 blokes would be away up the river...

Interested to see some ladder predictions for this season… especially from the great man Bedge.

Most teams are an unknown to me but Fitzroy do look a standout.

Fitzroy and St Pauls look solid. Para Hills have developed depth.

From a club point of view, I'm pretty happy with Ingle Farm flying under the radar.. but then there is a part that does annoy me.

People seem to forget that in the last 2 years our B grade have only lost 4 minor round games - and beat Eastern Park last year.. and our A grade despite falling away late in the season only dropped 6 games last year, beat Fitzroy both times and lost to the premiers by 2 goals each time.

By default, we should be in the mix despite perhaps not as active over the off season as others (or so it may seem).

It does look a tough div to pick, and pretty even across the board. Personally, Fitzroy are the side that will set the pace - they have a young, fast team, steadily building in recent years and have added some serious top end talent.

St Pauls were good last year. They are tall and have some high quality prime movers through the midfield, on their small ground their dangerous forwards get plenty of looks and can transition D50 to F50 very quickly. I also expect Houghton to be around the mark - found them to be very similar to St Pauls last year as a general standard, and a club that has reasonable depth.

Para Hills coming up a div - 4x teams holds in good stead with depth, and being reigning premiers, but let's pump the breaks a little on winning flags already. It's still a step up from D7 and less "easy" games. They'll be in the 5 I think, and maybe they will have a tilt at it.. but I don't have them ahead of the sides already named at the moment.

OSB Lonsdale, should be competitive, depth will be tested. Beat Para Hills last year during the minor round, lost the GF. Again stepping up a div isn't easy - Houghton prime example last year after coming out of D7 - they were competitive enough but missed the 5.

Outside of those teams, and based on last year not sure anyone else is a serious contender - although i've heard Rosewater have picked up few more from Portland and Blackfriars have solid numbers on the track, just not the top end talent at the moment.

Sadly, West Croydon will be Elizabeth 2.0

Reality is, it's all guess work right now.. tomorrow lunch when teams go in will have more idea, and then Saturday night when we see the results.

Really well said.

I think sometimes not being too active in the offseason can be a good thing. A lot of teams are ‘active’ because they are replacing a lot of players who have moved on. Too many changes really hurts chemistry too.

None from memory.

we lost a couple up the road, and a couple interstate for work commitments.
