No. Contact below the knees is a free kick offense not reportable.

Yes

Contact below the knees is a free kick is under law 18.7 Rough Conduct

Rough Conduct is a reportable offence under law 22.2.2 (v) Engaging in Rough Conduct against an opponent.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Also interesting that McInerney gets 3 games because the AFL want to protect the head. The player 'bumped' has had 3 concussions in what 10 games. At what point do the AFL step in and say enough is enough, we can't keep suspending players for games when the lightest of bumps are causing concussion.

Surely there is a duty of care from the AFL's part to also step in when the same player is having concussions.

Or the AFL could always play their beloved trump card and call it "Bringing the Game into Disrepute".

No one is saying what Archer should have done, anyone?

What happens if Archer missed Cleary and collected Konstanty? Same suspension?

He understandably presumed that Cleary would keep his feet and when he folded to the ground this took him by surprise and had nowhere to go, despite slowing to some degree, confirming it wasn't totally reckless as some have said.

This is a football accident, just like Maynard's, there needs to be flex in the rules here, this will keep happening.

and yes I understand the concussion issue but trying to get to a point where it is completely eliminated is a total dream.

C'mon Dutch you know better than that, reckless has been removed from the law book its either careless or intentional for a few years now.

Next man up and press applies more for when you they have possession, he was never going to beat Cleary to that ball so he should have been moving up and setting himself to tackle Cleary as soon as he had got possession and force the ball up. if he was setting himself to tackle and Cleary fell like he did he would have got the contact below the knee free kick (most likely). This was the percentage play, move up smartly force the stoppage and given the clearance numbers North were getting that night it was likley North would've won the footy.

The fact he was moving up way to fast in an unrealistic attempt to win the footy (rather than force a stoppage) and made contact he was careless and unfortunately got him high.

Yes but how can Scrimshaw swing an arm the way he did be considered careless? What other intent did he have than to make contact?

I guess we have our measure now though, next time someone jumps onto someones back for a mark and concusses them with a knee to the head then they have to suspend for a minimum 3 weeks now because that player had a reasonable alternative in not going for that hanger.

Issue is if he gives Cleary too much space he gets stepped and not only is he goalside of Archer, so is Archer's direct opponent. Coach loses his shit. He is in a no win situation, especially when you chuck in the fact that 99% of AFL players will not go to ground in that situation.

Anyway its done now, I would have been ok with a 1 weeker, but 3 seems nuts.
