He is 30 years old, but is in career best form, after twice being awarded ACB contracts and being part of the 2001 Ashes squad. He was last seasons Queensland Player of the year and toured with the Australian A side to Pakistan recently, altough was only selected for on of the first class game taking 1/24 and 1/43, and scored 39. This domestic season he has the set the game alight

Must be considered in the o/d International games on form.
How awesome would QLD be for allrounders if they were all available for o/d games !

Im pretty sure that youll find that hes played one of two Pura Cup games at the Gabba, and the other, on a pitch that selectors were told to ignore results from as it was SO SO flat

No Idea

He is in stellar form, i think he should be considered.

Like i said on another thread, if the selectors want to play 4 paceman they should play 2 of Lee, Tait and Johnson and Clark and Noffke. Not to mention he would add a bit with the bat as well.

I think Noffke's form warrants a close look for sure

Unfortunately, as with Katich, there's this issue of him not having a CA contract. As someone pointed out, I am sure a new one could be signed pretty quickly if required. Until then, our fast bowling options are:

In squad for 1st test:
Brett Lee
Stuart Clark
Mitchell Johnson
Ben Hilfenhaus

Not in squad but with CA contract:
Nathan Bracken
Jason Gillespie
Shaun Tait (inj)
Shane Watson
In between signatures .....

IMHO he will play test cricket, if not he will play one day cricket for Australia by the end of the summer, I like this guy, he is a genuine allrounder, who has a hell of a lot of talent, reminds me alot of a young Botham, not as dynamic but has some awesome power and flair about him

Noffke was on the radar and pushing for selection some 5 or 6 years ago, but his form dropped off. I'm sure if he keeps bowling well then he'll end up taking someone's spot because I can't see Lee, Johnson and Tait keeping him out of the running forever.

And you don't have to have a contract to play for Australia if I recall correctly. They've had guys come from nowhere to play test/one day cricket before (Colin Miller being one I think).

You don't have to be on the current list but you do need a contract before playing 'regularly' (whatever regularly means) as per the Cricket Australia web-site:

The National Selection Panel nominates 25 players based on two primary criteria:

- The form of the players over the past 12 months; and
- Their likelihood of Australian selection over the next 12 months taking into account who Australia plays, balance of the side and the need to ensure the future development of the Test and one-day international teams.

The contracted players are the core group from which players are drawn for both Tests and one-day internationals in the year ahead. Uncontracted players remain eligible for Australian selection and can be upgraded to a Cricket Australia contract if they gain regular selection.

The wording of that only indicates that there is the provision to be upgraded if they become regulars, not that they will be upgraded if they become regulars. There are match payments though that mean an uncontracted player doesn't just do if for the love of the game.

Well in my opinion they could do alot worse than picking Noffke in the team. I think he would go alright.

Absolutely - I reckon if a couple of blokes can't step up to the plate against the Sri Lankans Noffke will be primed for a spot.

Ended up with 3/21 off 13 overs in the Sri Lankan 2nd dig.
8 wickets for the match against Johnson's 2.

Is there any weight to the assesment that he would be too similar in style to that of Stuart Clarke, and the selectors wouldnt want two bowlers of such a similar ilk?
I think not, but has been said, so others must think so.

I don't think they'd be too worried about someone being too similar to Clark. I think they have too many bowlers like Lee - Fast but expensive and dissapointingly ineffective. They picked Clark and McGrath in the same team and look what happened. The selectors would have noticed that and I dare say another good game by Noffke will put him ahead of Tait and Hilfenhaus pretty quickly.
