Mitch Quinn stepping down as captain/coach after 1 season. Travis Wordsworth to take it over from him. What’s happened there?

Looks like Hooch is continuing to leave a trail of destruction in his wake. This time, though, he's returning to old clubs to do it again. Look out Walkerville, Goodwood and Glenunga.

Just had a look on the PAOC facebook page, doesn't seem like they are too upset with him:

Sam Turner has informed the PAOCCC committee that he will be stepping down as head coach due to health reasons. The committee and the entire PAOCCC community would like to express our deepest gratitude for his unwavering dedication and leadership over the past two seasons.

Sam first took on the role of coach 20 years ago, guiding the club for four seasons and leading us from A2 to A1, where we remained for an incredible 17 years. When we found ourselves back in A2, Sam returned without hesitation, once again steering us straight back to A1—a testament to his coaching expertise and passion. Despite the challenges of this past season, his influence has ensured our continued place in the competition.

Sam’s impact on our club is immeasurable, and his legacy is undeniable. We wish him all the very best and hope to see him, Leanne, Sammy, and James around the club for many years to come.

Not sure you should be slagging him off if his departure is health related either.

Hooch also took Walkerville to an A1 GF, and Goodwood aren't exactly struggling post Hooch's time with them, the club is flying with 5 teams playing in Grand Finals two weekends ago and their A grade winning the A1 flag for the third time on the trot.

Perhaps it's just Glenunga who struggled with what Hooch brought to the table.

Have to back Trader up here. The guy has a very good record pretty much everywhere but Glenunga. Not convinced them not being great is his fault. Maybe if they'd listened to him they'd not have their A Grade finishing 9th in B2.

You'd be a very brave man to question Trader's knowledge or integrity.

Would be a pretty handy incision to that side with some good young players, especially if they get Clayfield and he firing together.

Yeah, it was a little dig at PPP over the para hills comment which is clearly wrong.
But with that said, I do believe his mail on Benton is correct, as I too have heard he’ll be at the Reds come October.

Live scoring for all grades or fines in place. Hard enough getting players let alone one that can live score!

This is quite a surprising decision. While it may make sense for your top divisions (A1–A3), expecting the lower grades to live score could create more challenges/issues than it solves.

Many of the venues used by lower-grade teams lack even basic amenities like toilets, let alone access to power for charging devices needed for live scoring. Clubs are already facing additional costs, such as the $900 increase in umpire fees across our A and B Grade teams, and now we’re expected to supply laptops or iPads, power banks, and train team captains in how to use the scoring system.

In most cases, the batting side handles scoring, meaning away teams would be required to use our devices without familiarity or training. It’s hard to see how this benefits the competition or supports clubs that are already trying to manage costs and avoid unnecessary burdens in the current financial climate.

Or live scoring saves admin time post game balancing books, then entering scores into playHQ.

First game or two will be a bit of a headache, but once teams get used to it, I think it will be a positive.

Oh, and as for training people, learning to live score is far easier than teaching kids how to score in the old book. Enter what happened once, rather than record it three times in a book (vs batsman, in the bowling, and crossing off the running total).

But I think the biggest benefit of it all is you'll stop those scenarios in the lower grades where the batting adds up to 120, the bowling 165 and the fielding team thought they only conceded 100 haha

I get the cost could be a bit of a barrier.

I don't know your exact situations but weve found most of the players (especially the younger generation) are so much more comfortable live scoring on the table rather than the old-fashioned score book.

Our league still do both and you can guarantee every single time the younger lads will jump straight on the tablet and leave the book for the old timers like myself.

For what it’s worth, we actively encourage all our grades to use live scoring, as we find it to be a more efficient approach.

That said, we believe mandatory live scoring across all grades could create more challenges than benefits, particularly in the lower divisions. There’s still significant value in allowing clubs the flexibility to manage their administration in a way that suits their resources and volunteers. With ongoing concerns about the decline in volunteer numbers in community sport, removing flexibility only makes it harder to attract and retain the people we rely on.

Some teams may prefer live scoring, while others may find manual scoring more manageable, I think either option is fine as long as scores are entered into PlayHQ within a reasonable timeframe.

I personally have some concerns around the introduction of mandatory administrative practices particularly from Associations who don't provide adequate financial support or training. In my view, the governance and administration practices should fall under the remit of SACA, who at least provides volunteer training and capacity-building support. Associations placing additional admin requirements on clubs without backing them appropriately can place extra strain on already stretched resources.

I'm not concerned about the capacity of my club (Para Hills Cricket Club) to adopt these practices, we are already utilising modern day administration platforms to be more efficient and professional, however I'm looking out for clubs who may not have a skilled committee and are utilisng the only resources at their disposal, keeping some level of flexibility for these clubs who may be rebuilding is invaluable.
