The issue is the SANFL is catering everything for the AFL which sadly is what the 'players' want.

However, this rightfully puts the fans offside.

It's kind of like the chicken and the egg. Unfortunately, the league can't survive without the fans but in equal measures can't survive without blokes wanting to play in the league and sadly this generation only play SANFL because it's a feeder to the AFL.

How does the SANFL find a balance that's the trick.

The only long-term answer i can see would be if the SANFL clubs had the money to see a significant rise in the salary cap that would then see blokes willing to play SANFL for the larger money on offer than what country/ammo clubs can offer that makes the extra requirements worth it. How does the SANFL get to a point all clubs can afford that......................i don't think it can.

It was brought in to fix immediate needs of AFL lists, now its just an opportunity to grab talent prior to the next draft.

SSP period was less than 100 days ago, none of these players were considered good enough for AFL lists then but are now?

Only good enough now cause of long term injuries dont forget - they are still not good enough (mostly)

Proper transfer fees like soccer is the only way.
You want someone at the MSD, you pay that club $100k

Can anyone access the Advertiser article on the SANFL players getting caught on the hot mic?

Think he is pretty spot on though, besides Port's SANFL team getting a big boost, Sturt were the big winners last night. Have to shorten in odds for the Premiership. Eagles the third winner from last night.

Clearly that's never going to happen. The AFL is to powerful. The SANFL players don't want to miss out on their chance to play AFL because of a transfer fee. If too hard most players will just go play ammos/country.

Imagine the Crows had the three picks and picked up the two state players and a quality defender. Nice boost for a shot at the premiership. As well as weakening their potential opponents.

What if Port took Kobe Ryan from West, how could a West supporter maintain interest in the SANFL.
Haven't heard Koch head, whining about the massive "concessions", Port have just received with this draft. They don't draft Mclennan or Watkins so they can keep them as non afl listed players, not counting toward the reserves afl player quota.

I love conspiracy theories, but there is zero chance AFL clubs are boosting their AFL lists so they can win state league premierships. Would not even be a thought,
