How many different time slots can be put up as reasons for below average attendance. So far we have Sun and Sat afternoon locked away, any more? Asking for UK Fan.

Best to worst timeslots for me (i dont really care too much about crowd numbers as long as we aren't losing bulk $$)

Sat Night
Fri Night
Thurs Night
Sun Early
Sun Arvo
Sun Twi
Sat Twi
Sat Arvo - if it didnt affect me then I would have it 5th

Everyone has different things on at different timeslots obviously though. At the end of the day, night games in good weather are always going to be more popular than afternoon games, especially in Adelaide which has a lot of ammo sport on Sat & Sunday's for different codes & ages.

The worst part about the fixture we've been handed this year is it's your selling point to sponsors* for next year.

When you get prime time you forward sell on the basis of getting more of them and sponsors take the punt on you doing so. Get garbage timeslots and sponsors can review their deals.

*Not so much with major partners

You just reminded me

Took my lad to a footy clinic ages ago, at the Bay. They had both Power & Crows players there.

Our group had Chad & Kane Cornes and Mahony. When they were introduced to the kids, one young fella piped up with the loudest "WHO???" when they mentioned Mahony's name. Poor bastard...

Port’s woes this year are due to the fixture?

Nothing to do with getting their arses spanked by 91, 90 and 76 and sitting 15th before the match? :-s

Must be faarking strong Kool-Aid down there. :-??

Looking at the following timeslots in season 2025:
Thurs Night (6-8pm)
Fri Night (6-8pm)
Sat Lunch (12-2pm)
Sat Arvo (3-5pm)
Sat Night (6-8pm)
Sun Lunch (12-2)
Sun Arvo (2-4pm)
Sun Twilight (4-6pm)
Sun Night (6-8pm)

Note: we excluded Fri Arvo (3-6pm) and Mon Arvo (3-6pm), as these slots have had less than 4 games this season.

You have 108 games with a total crowd of 4,071,616, or an average of 37,700.

Only 3 time slots have an average crowd this season over 37,700, those being:
Friday Night (6-8pm), average 54,079, or +43.44%
Sun Night (6-8pm), average 47,769, or +26.71%
Thurs Night (6-8pm), average 45,905, or +21.76%

The worst performed timeslot is Sun Twilight (4-6pm), with an average of 22,452, or -40.45%.
Followed by the Sun and Sat lunch times (12-2pm), with -24.37% and -18.34%.

Night time footy ranks the best, followed by afternoon.
Lunch time is bad and twilight is terrible.

Fri Night (6-8pm).....................54,079
Sun Night (6-8pm)...................47,769
Thurs Night (6-8pm)................45,905
Sun Arvo (2-4pm)....................36,668

Sat night numbers are surprising, quick guess without checking though... most Sat nights are non Vic games so numbers be lower than other games that are at the G?

Real mixed bag for Sat nights. Can see why that is lower too, not many block buster games at all & lots of other venues that dont have big capacities. Interesting scheduling from the AFL. Is it 7 dictating what games they want Thurs, Fri & Sunday and what venues they want to broadcast from? The marvel games were average for the most part and are the lesser Vic teams

Marvel - 6
Optus - 3
MCG - 2
AO - 2 (Showdown & Gather Round)
Canberra - 2
Darwin - 1
Engie (GWS) - 1
Gabba - 1
UTas - 1
SCG - 1

The figures quoted are only upto round 14, rd 15 still to be added to the stats tables page, so Friday night will drop thanks to the Hawks vs Crows game.

As for the saturday night fixtures, the average is dragged down by 5 bad games:
GWS vs Port - 9005
Gold Coast vs Doggies - 9816
GWS vs Doggies - 12234
Hawks vs GWS (tassie) - 14021
Richmond vs Gold Coast (docklands) - 18423

Correct, if you break it down into clubs and timeslots the data is cut up too much and you don't get averages, but rather single data points.
Weather, public holidays, neutral vs interstate opponent, ladder position, etc all impact the data too.

By sticking to the broader categories of simple timeslots, those incidental factors start to wash out and you get more of the trend, which supports night time footy is best, followed by afternoon. Lunchtime and twilight are terrible.

Can someone produce a chart? Or some info graphics?

Where’s Morell when we need him.

Apples v apples

Round 4 this year v St Kilda 34k in the Sunday 2:50 time slot

Last weekend v Melbourne 30k in same time slot.

One in April, so warmer but both fine and sunny days.

Round 4 on the back of a disappointing loss to Essendon, last week on the back of a good win away against GWS.

Port playing for their season with a bunch of good players back in.

So was Sundays crowd a bit lower than expected, or not?
