Yeah that's what i meant 14 games home and away, 3 triple up games pre-determined prior to the season starting based on previous years ladder positions (top 4 seeds play each other whilst bottom 4 seeds play each other). Open ladder for the entire 17 game season.

No need to fix a system that has been in place for about 5 years and isn't broken. When clubs start worrying about how certain things affect B and/or C grade it's the clubs that need to have a good look at themselves rather than the league.

If its good enough for the AFL to have some sides play each other more than others im sure Div 7 ammos could just play X amount of games and have an open ladder the entire season.

The other is the league is strategic and has some formula behind the triple up games like many country leagues do. Is it 8 teams 17 games so you play each team twice and then 3 teams 3 times.

Could the previous years A Grades 8,7,6,5 positions play their triple ups against one another and then the two div 6 relegated sides, call them seed 1 and seed 2 play last years 3rd and 4th sides in the triple ups. This would also hopefully keep for a more even comp across the A Grade. Obviously, the B Grade follow the A Grade and just take the good with the bad as each year comes.

WTF are you on about?

You can't pre-determine seeding for D7 based on the season before - aside from the fact you have two clubs that come down from D6, there is massive uncertainty from season to season on how each club shapes up.

Brahma Lodge finished 5th last year - by your theory they should get to play Smithfield, Mitchell Park and Mawson Lakes x3 this season.. that would give them a massive advantage over the other clubs.

The way it is currently is fair and equitable - the top 4 end up playing each other again, and the bottom 4 play each other again, leading to more even, balanced contest.

If you're a club trying to sandbag / tank to finish in the bottom 4 during the season just so you can have an easy last 3 games, you've got ******* rocks in your head.

Aside from the fact you probably have to play the same side 3 or 4 times in a 6 week bracket, I love the make up of D7.

It rewards the top 4 sides for consistency by guaranteeing a finals spot early.
It keeps the season alive and interesting for the bottom 4 sides playing off for that 5th place - like a wildcard.
It (usually) finishes a week earlier, and 17 minor round games is fine.

Perhaps the only slight adjustment you could make would be to insert the 3 game round robin bracket at the end of Rd 7.

Rd 1 - Rd 7: Play each side once
Rd 8 - Rd 10: Play round robin group stage i.e. top 4 vs top 4, bottom 4 vs bottom 5
Rd 11 - Rd 17: Play each side once

This would potentially avoid the issue of sides playing each other twice at the back end of minor round, then possibly two finals.

Pretty funny how the fixture has panned out for Elizabeth, they play Brahma, Hackham, United, Brahma, United, Hackham to finish off the season & then will face a combination of them in the finals as well
Same 3 clubs for 9 weeks haha

We had to similar in 2023 with Houghton - our last 3 games of the season were against them - Rd 17, QF, GF.

Played them 5 times for the season... probably one of the reasons they hate us so much.

I'd rather see Div 6 and Div 7 both with 9 teams and a bye, to play a 16 game season across 18 weeks and finish in line with everyone else. Until 2 more teams come in.

I'd rather see the powerful D/E grade sides play D7 like the old days.

Golden Grove C6 would win D7.

Golden Grove, PAOC, Henley, Adel Uni.

Or pair up and have a mix of D grade sides in D7 and D7R i.e. Golden Grove from C6 to D7, PAOC from C7 to D7R

They'd rather stay in the C comp, not having to play against sides that recruit. Last time the bigger clubs ran in the 7's it wasnt great. Tho the standard probably closer now, than it was back then.

2018
Golden Grove finished 8th, with a 4/14 record (Had no other C Grade sides)

2017
Uni 6th 8/10 (Had C1 & C6 sides)
PAOC 10th forfeited after a 0/9 record, so went to C3's and finished 5th (also had a C1 side)

2016
Unley 6th 7/9 (Had no other C Grade sides)
PAOC 2nd 12/4 lost GF (Had a C3 side)

True, but go back a little further I can remember Flinders Pk, Adel Uni and Henley going pretty good in D7 / D7R.

Also didn't Uni play finals in D7R in 2017?

I think the standard of D7 has dropped away dramatically over recent years though - you'll always have the 2-3 clubs that are strong, but at the bottom end it's not great footy.

Prob right though, wont happen again.

I think all grades have gradually dropped off compared to 2020-2022. Covid shutting leagues down stacked the ammo's. Probably hasn’t dropped off necessarily, but back largely to pre-covid standards.

I said to some people a while ago that I thought C1 was equivalent standard to D7. Got laughed at.

Sounds like a few people here agree.

Ah yeh the old whats the standard equivalent to endless debate

Facts are it changes and is highly variable even within the division. Elizabeth are about as good a side as I've seen in D7 for many years, they'd smoke every D7 Premier over the last 5-6 years given an equal playing field. Heck I reckon they'd be top or close to it in D6.

Some years D7 would be way stronger than C1, there would be occasions where a C1 side would be more than competitive. Does drop away though. We would've fielded sides last year in the As and even at the start of this year that would struggle to kick a score in C1.

Its also usually depth that is the problem, not the better players, what is true for the individual is not true for the group.
