Always found the less overs in a format the harder it is to get everyone involved which is the number 1 deterrent for people playing the game.

Good captains / teams will find a way to ensure equal participation.. it's the players that look for glory that don't like it and would be hampered.

Last year i'd say our C grade side was one of the few in that division that actually shared it around and promoted participation over winning. Of course not that there is anything wrong with winning or playing to win either.

Very much this Bedge, it’s hard to balance development and success, but strong clubs ensure they have leaders who understand the balance. I think this is where society is failing not just Para Districts, there is zero checks and regulators keeping things in line in our day to day life and things are slipping into Anarchy, today the death of 2 Day cricket, tomorrow the 4 Horsemen may just ride on into town…

Salisbury West have been the best at this as they have created an environment where they still have so many old stalwarts willing to split down the grades as they get older. You often see all their stalwarts scattered amongst all of their side, captaining whilst playing less of a role in the batting and bowling whilst younger ones get more of a go. They do it better than anyone.

It is getting harder though to find those type of people.

You're asking a bit much for some of these guys to work out that equation

Remove Craigmore and ATCO from Grade 1 and add in NEK and I think you have your group. I think it's only fair on those two clubs who have stuck out the hard yards in Grade 1.

I'd say it would be 8 team grades (to allow one each for Eyre Royals), Could make the top two grades 10 I guess to make it an even 18 week season and level playing field.

Smithfield and OTH would get pummeled in Grade 2.

Smithfield won Grade 2 a season removed, depends how committed they all are.

I would beg to disagree, ATCO with Shuggman, Blundell, Muldoon theh could be a very different proposition in the Shorter format, a bit of confidence and anything is possible. Craigmore have a good line up, all just lack confidence to take the game on, with One Day cricket their hand is forced and they could quickly improve. I think the current team it hurts the most would be Eyre Royals.

And if the Association put $1500 on a Grade One win, the clubs that have done the hard years may just back themselves in?

They aren't, they won't have Mossy and they will struggle to have 5-6 actual cricketers, fair chance that Goober won't be there either.

I don't doubt ATCO's ability, I think them and Craigmore have earnt the right to be given an easier season to get their breath back, they have great bowling depth.

Whilst the one day comp was always on the cards, officially ticked off last night at the AGM.

Now we wait and see what the make up of the divisions and playing conditions will be.

Enfield are struggling with seniors - only 9 registered - I've decided if we don't get numbers in by end of next week, I'm out the door.

Had enough.

I've heard whispers Salisbury North are doneski and North Pines dropped from 4 teams to 2. Smithfield are battling and going down to Grade 4.

That's all I really know.

Still nothing regarding structure of the game, rules etc. even if it was a simple ‘as per 2024/25’ would be sufficient.

Radio silence from the Association with less than a month to go is staggering.

Just got an email:

Hi All,
If you haven't already, could you please add your teams in Play HQ. The quicker this is done, the quicker we can do the program.

Haven't heard anything around rule changes or structures etc.

4 weeks until Rd 1..

Maybe it's just me, but I can't recall a more lacklustre, uninterested buildup to a season before.

Probably hard to get too excited knowing Salisbury West are going to win their 100th premiership in a row and probably win A & B grades again

Ii've heard Westies lost a few.

Central United & North Pines have dropped down to LO5.

Enfield had first training yesterday, had over 20 kids working hard.. and 1 senior player.

One Day cricket may be the undoing, levels the playing field and a few overs of individual brilliance is usually enough to get the result. A lot of people stressing over the format, a lot of speculation if 40 or 45 overs in Grade 1, possible 35 overs in lower grades if word of mouth is to be believed, White balls and Colour Kits, what constitutes ’lower grades’ for 35 overs?

Wholeheartedly agree regarding appetite for the season to roll around, usually change brings excitement and anticipation, this change seems to benefit no one.

I proposed 32 overs in the lowest grade only - same rules effectively as the women. Keep that grade only for jnrs transitioning to seniors and older players.

16 overs per hour, game would be done in 4.5hrs so by 5:30pm starting 1pm.. and whilst it's a bit of a drop off, remembering that a lot of the kids play 14s or 16s in the morning, it's a bloody long day.

Also, from my limited exposure to LO6 last season, 40 overs was pointless - each team had 3 or so players that dominated, majority just made up numbers, and rarely did a team bat the full 40 overs unless the key players fired... and if it did go the journey, with tiring youth + older blokes, some games really dragged out.

Only a few sides invested in participation over performance.
