I suspect that’s exactly what happened. I respect the fact that he declined and fronted up to face the music.

Yep that seems the most likely version of events. Be surprised if they decided to dismiss him instantly after the win vs instantly dismissing him after the loss to St Kilda.

Appears they finally came to a decision that he wouldn't be coaching next year, informed him, and then he has said well I'll go straight away.

5 weeks to the first final, 7 to the prelim. You'd think at worst he's back then.

Reporter : The Melbourne board thinks the playing group needs a new voice.

Ed Langdon : Not sure I'd agree with that.

Regardless of whether players loved, loathed or were ambivalent about their just sacked coach, rightly or wrongly, the minute they play their next match all is forgotten and they just move on.

Exactly, it's their profession, and this isn't local footy where personal relationships would sway a player's decision making.

These players need to now buckle down and impress whoever is going to take over.

Our game against the Suns will be an all time classic.
Suns will rest half their side for finals and we will be tanking worse than normal if there is still a chance to finish below North and/or Richmond

They might be playing for 4th spot so I don't see this happening.

There is that possibility of course in which case I’d happily see us roll over and lose by 100 if it cost Collingwood top 4 :)

Essendon

last game for the year on the Goldie with no chance of finals and it's a "make up" game, this will not end well

It'll be Saints v Essendon Rd 23 2008 all over again
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Impossible to pick right now.

Hawks v Collingwood, Fremantle v Brisbane and Brisbane v Hawthorn sort that all out. Who knows!

I can see Fremantle, Hawthorn, GWS or the Bulldogs missing out still.
