Yes it was donut round in the Premier League and with so many squads down several members for the round, we had a heap of close results with a couple of upsets to boot. We had our second draw of the season when Inner Sanctum and Pool Swimmers could not be separated and you’d think that extra two points is a more vital to Pooly than Sanctum right now with Pool six points of the top eight with four matches to play. There was a one point margin as well and HORNEY will be kicking themselves about not getting the chocolates over top four Captain Who. This one point loss could be the result that sends HORNEY back to Division I next season. Summer of George had a good week with a percentage booster against Head Butters which saw George leapfrog Billy on the table and back into the eight they go.

FISH had an outstanding match to comfortably account for ladder leaders Poon who got off scott free as Ecky was on the receiving end of what was the performance of the round by inform DAISY who are stalking the top four. A couple of mid-table teams would be happy with their lost as REBCats defended their top eight place from Jobby while Hondo and Sharks stayed relevant with important victories. Down the arse end it was a terrible result for HORNEY as noted while The Willies and especially Butters were very poor this weekend. In regards to relegation I reckon it’s down to three teams with Butters, Willies and HORNEY in the gun. Mediocre can’t seem to get going this season but he has a slight percentage buffer over his main rival Butters who might pay a heavy price for his big loss to George.

The Run Home

Yes, lads the bye weeks are (finally) over and we can now talk Premier League finals and who may or may not be there. Reckon the pass mark this season is nine wins which indicates we’ve had a pretty even year despite Poon’s efforts in his back-to-back quest. This means you need to currently have at least 20 points to get to that mark so theoretically there are 14 teams in the hunt. If your mob isn’t in this post then it’s a relegation battle for you. Here’s how I see the rest of the minor round playing out. Tips in bold.

1. Poon Army 40 (Pool Swimmers, Jobby the GOAT, REBCats, Inner Sanctum)
Poon will go in favourites in all four but I’m tipping a last round hiccup before Poon prepares to defend his title next month. A first up final against Ecky is the likely match up. 52 points - 1st.

2. Ecky’s Fevolas 36 (The Willies, Hondo 97-98s, Roosters, Summer of George)
Like Poon deserves to start favourite in all four matches but SuperCoach has a way of throwing up an unexpected spanner and Ecky’s just might be Hondo. I reckon Ecky cops a loss that sees the Fevs cop Poon in their Quallie. 48 points - 4th.

3. Captain Who 36 (Sharks, TEAM_FISH, Pool Swimmers, Jobby the GOAT)
The Captain a pretty consistent team at this level but faces one more massive challenge to hold their top four spot. I reckon FISH gets the chocolates there and the Captain’s first final will be the knockout variety against Hondo . 48 points- 5th.

4. Inner Sanctum 34 (Jobby the GOAT, REBCats, Hondo 97-98s, Poon Army)
Sanctum had a purple patch earlier in the season but might struggle to hold on to their top four spot as that run in looks tough. Reckon they go 50/50 from here and miss the double chance and a possible match up with REBCats in a knockout final. 42 points - 6th.

5. DAISYSDUDS 32 (Roosters, Summer of George, Wild HORNE Berry, Sharks)
I reckon DAISY can win all four of these with George being the toughest of the matches still to play. The DUDS have been in top form of late so they should take Sanctum’s spot in the four and face FISH in week 1 thanks to that excellent percentage. 48 points – 2nd.

6. TEAM_FISH 32 (Mediocre at Best, Captain Who, Head Butters, Billy&The Swingmen)
Like DAISY, FISH will finish strongly and should win all of these but the match against the Captain is a tricky fixture for the FISHy one. I’m tipping FISH overcomes their recent dodgy form and claim 3rd spot and a matchup with DAISY. 48 points – 3rd.

7. REBCats 28 (Hondo 97-98s, Inner Sanctum, Poon Army, Mediocre at Best)
This year’s yo-yo team, I expect more of the same from my boys. Two wins two losses to retain seventh spot and an Elimination final against Sanctum. 36 points – 7th

8. Summer of George 28 (Billy&The Swingmen, DAISYSDUDS, The Willies, Ecky’s Fevolas)
A mixed bag in the run home for George but I can’t see him winning against DAISY or Ecky and he’s no walk-up against Billy either. It’s a tough run in and I don’t think George has the scoring power to make the eight and they’ll do a Richmond and just miss on percentage. 36 points – 9th.

9. Hondo 97-98s 24 (REBCats, Ecky’s Fevolas, Inner Sanctum, Roosters)
Hondo has finally started winning matches at the right end of the season and the next two weeks are crucial. Two of the next three must be won and then the coup de gras against the Chooks in the last round. A tough draw but Hondo scoring well enough to jump George on percentage and face off with Ecky in an Elimination final. 36 points – 8th.

10. Billy&The Swingmen 24 (Summer of George, Wild HORNE Berry, Sharks, TEAM_FISH)
Not a bad season for Billy but I’m not sure he can swing a finals berth. Needs to beat George to stay alive I think and I’m not sure he gets that done. A tough final round match against FISH does Billy no favours either. 32 points – 10th

11. Jobby the GOAT 24 (Inner Sanctum, Poon Army, Mediocre at Best, Captain Who)
Jobby’s papers may be stamped after being overrun by REBCats last week. Much tougher opposition in Sanctum and Poon await in the next two weeks and with another top four side laying in wait on the last weekend, it doesn’t look good for the Scud. 28 points – 11th

12. Sharks 24 (Captain Who, Head Butters, Billy&The Swingmen, DAISYSDUDS)
Despite showing signs of life in the middle of the season, I can’t see Sprio getting the three or four wins needed to replicate last year’s finals appearance. Reckon the Captain closes the door on the Golden Greek this week and I expect the Sharks to fizzle out from here. 28 points – 12th

13. Pool Swimmers 22 (Poon Army, Mediocre at Best, Captain Who, Head Butters)
That draw last week was two points gone begging and I see no joy for Pooly until it’s too late. Need to win the lot so a match up against Poon coming off a loss this week is not great for Pooly’s chances. 26 points – 13th.

14. Roosters 20 (DAISYSDUDS, The Willies, Ecky’s Fevolas, Hondo 97-98s)
It’s been a disappointing year from the normally high-flying Roosters and the chooks would need to revive the ghost of campaigns past to make it this year. Need to win the lot but that draw is doing them no favours. The Roosters just haven’t been scoring enough this season and they will be spectators come August. 24 points – 14th.

Pool Swimmers kept their finals hopes afloat with a sensational apres scaling win over ladder leaders Poon Army. Pool was behind when the final siren sounded at the Oval on Sunday but after Champion Data had done their dastardly deed Pooly emerged a one point winner! Apparently a truckload of chook poo was delivered to Champion Data on Monday morning but cannot confirm if Poon organised said delivery as hambone was unavailable for comment. This time the contenders did the right thing and got the job done; Ecky was too strong for The Willies who hit rock bottom (so many jokes so little time) and the Captain sunk the Sharks in impressive fashion. Sanctum hung on to defeat JOBBY so that minor premiership that looked so assured for Poon a few weeks ago now looks a bit iffy.

The finals picture doesn’t look that much clearer either. Hondo was too good for a very poor REBCats who seem to put up an absolute stinker every second week. George had a sensational victory over Billy in what was a very high standard game with Billy pretty stiff to get done with that score. FISH can kiss goodbye the top four I reckon after his loss to Mediocre and down the arse end HORNEY’s win gets them off the bottom of the ladder and puts the heat on Butters. Butters doesn’t normally handle the heat all that well so it will be interesting to see if they stick around the Premier League next season. Three to go lads.

It was a crazy week of SuperCoach where some players like Jaicos, The Bont, Zutters, Nanderson and Dawson went massive but players such as Rozee, Kennedy and Martin bit their owners on the bum. End result was quite a range in the scores this week. When the dust settled Poon and Ecky remained at the pointy end of the ladder and with just two matches to go they can at least pencil in their top four bookings for the season. DAISY's late season form has been very hot and as a result they were able to leapfrog Sanctum who where knocked off by the REBCats who managed to steal back his top eight spot from Hondo who slipped out after getting rolled by Ecky.

With two weeks to go there's probably 12 teams still in with one of those being Mediocre somehow. Best is just like the Roadrunner he won't go down and once again he's storming home and looking to pinch a top eight spot which has been his by right most years. I'm hoping that a certain team denies him in the last round. Jobby, Roosters and Sharks bowed out with the win to the Roosters probably not enough to bridge the gap to Cats and George. HeadButters has been in hibernation for much of this premier league season but after topping the league scoring with a fine win over Sharks, they look to have at least guaranteed that they will back for another crack next year. Things are looking decidedly grim for HORNEY and The Willies who now need to win their last two games and hope for someone directly above to lose both. Head Butters could possibly still miss but that percentage boosting win suggests they have the firepower to stay up next season.

It was a great week for the reigning premier Poon who got to beat up on his Gold Coast Suns in our very own Q clash as the REBCats fell in a hole yet again. While Poon was untroubled extending his winning record over me, nearly all the other top eight sides got the jitters and got rolled. Only Georgie boy got a win and he’s one top eight side I’d actually like to see lose a match. End result top four and top eight is really open. Minor premier Poon is safe of course but other results mean that Ecky should get the double chance as well. DAISY will be absolutely spewing that he missed out by three points in a result that would have secured his top four spot but HORNEY got the win to somehow keep his Premier League survival chances alive.

The top eight has an absolute logjam of teams trying to get in but if Billy’s scoring is anything to go by, he’s safe as houses and that George with his relatively poor percentage may be the vulnerable one. Hondo has looked very sharp in recent weeks looks likely which makes it tough for my boys to sneak in at George's expense. The Willies will be going back to Division I next year after suffering a heartbreaking loss to George which finally sinks them. The Sharks have not had a good season but looked safe from the drop but their consistently poor scoring sees them vulnerable after they were thrashed by Billy last week and their percentage was pounded. Sharkies are suddenly no longer safe.

Here’s how the last round plays out. My tips in BOLD.

Hondo vs Roosters: Hondo favourites but the fast-finishing Roosters no easybeat as proven last weekend
Poon vs. Sanctum: Poon could get the deckchairs out and study Sanctum’s form while attempting to set up a rematch
George vs. Fevs: Everyone outside the eight still in the hunt will be cheering on Fev this week
REBCats vs. Mediocre: Mediocre in much better form but it’s an ‘up’ week for the Cats
HORNEY vs. Willies: Willies could prove the spoiler but if HORNEY gets up Sharkies will go down
Captain vs. Jobby: Jobby gawn so Captain to hold his top four spot
Sharks vs. DAISY: Spiro in deep diggery do and will be cheering on Willies this week.
FISH vs. Billy: Fringe teams demand a lift from FISH but Billy awesome last week worse luck. Come on FISH!
Butters vs. Pooly: Tough one to pick but Butters finishing the season strongly.

Inner Sanctum may have produced the big result in the last round cleaning up the ladder leaders Poon, but perhaps the really big fish this year might by Ecky if his 2835 is anything to go by. While not every week is going to be a bonanza like last round, Ecky has shown his Fevs have a high ceiling and that his boys might be good enough to give Poonie something to think about. DAISY has completed his best ever season in Premier by securing the double chance and his final against Ecky next week could be an early pointer for the premiership. You’d think Poon would be happy to dodge both teams in week one of the finals. The Captain was efficient, if not spectacular in disposing of Jobby and FISH got the job done against an unlucky Billy who finished 5th in scoring but missed the Premier League finals. It was a sensational effort to make eight by Pool Swimmers who stayed one step ahead of Mediocre who could literally not have done more in the run home. Pooly looked gawn a few weeks back but a brilliant rearguard action has kept their season alive. Sanctum proved they will be worthy finalists with their win over Poon and George was not disgraced either in their loss to Ecky. Georgie boy did most of the work early doors and is in finals as a result.

For those that missed Hondo is another hard luck story. For some reason wins elude Hondo at times and that pattern carried on to this season. The REBCats fell away after a couple of carnage rounds undid what was up to the bye period a successful aggressive trading strategy. I look forward to burning my trades again next year as I’ll never learn. The Roosters and Butters never really got going but had their moments and Jobby fell away worse and sooner than the REBCats. It was a nail-biting conclusion to the minor round in terms of the relegation battle where Spiro’s Sharks phoned in the lowest score of the Hogg (well, almost) to fade without a whimper in 2025. Having said that, the Sharks went out a winner as the The Willies rolled HORNEY which sent Bertie down with him. How the Sharks survived the drop I’ll never know as he has had a shocking season and Willies and HORNEY will be filthy.

In the finals I reckon Poon will get the job done against his bunny Captain Who and I reckon DAISY might prove hard to stop this August and a win against Ecky could be just the ticket. These blokes might even be in the Granny this year. In the knockouts I’m liking Sanctum to pip Pooly and I reckon FISH will advance at George’s expense.

For large chunks of this year, Poon Army have looked good things to go back to back and the first round of finals are certainly looking good for Poon. Poony topped the scoring with a comfortable win over the Captain with Poon Army being a gorilla sized monkey on the Captain’s back. I reckon Groover can’t win it from here and that he will go out in straight sets at the hands of Pool Swimmers this weekend. Meanwhile, Quallie was a cracker in the other final with DAISY putting a downpayment down on the premiership with a high-quality win over fellow contenders Ecky. In the knockouts, Sanctum and George bowed out rather meekly as Pool Swimmers and FISH respectively lived to fight another day. FISH has the tougher opponent in Ecky which means that Poon will probably have a tougher Prelmin than DAISY but that is a discussion for next week. I reckon Ecky bounces back and that this FISH will be one that won’t get away.

For the second final in a row Ecky has smashed out a monster score but this week they were on the right side of the ledger as they handed out a 190-point thrashing to end FISH’s season. The Captain turned around his poor scoring from the first weekend of the finals to sink Pool Swimmers which means it will be the top four teams fighting it out in this weekend’s Preliminary finals. Looking ahead I reckon minor premier Poon Army has the tougher Prelim and I’m backing Ecky to end Poon’s premiership defence this week. The Captain has been brave this season but DAISY has the air of destiny about him and I’m backing a finals rematch of DAISY vs. Ecky in this year’s Grand Final.

It's Preliminary Final week in the Premier League and they've been a couple of nailbiters. Defending champion Poon Army kept his premiership defence alive with a fighting 35 point victory over Ecky who appeared to be caught out by Zerrett's non-selection by the Bombers. The Yeti did not score well for three quarters against Collingwood and it was advantage Poon as he qualified for his second straight grand final. In the other Prelim DAISY fell 32 points short of the Captain who has done a brilliant job to get the rematch with Hambone for the title. I thought DAISY was destined for big things this season when I played him early as he had a cracking team and has spent the entire season in the top 5 in Hogg scoring. But it's all over now for DAISY in 2025 and Poon vs. The Captain the Grand Final.

In Hogg history we've often have teams go ok for a while and then disappearing for a bit so we don't have any one team who has dominated in this league over an extended period. But not many teams have gone back to back and no team has ever won three Hogg Premier Titles but Poon are now in pole position to do just that. The Captain must be sick of Poon. Poon got him three times last season and if Poon wins the Grand final that would make it six losses in two years. Talk about a bogey side. But if you could pick one to win it would be the Grand Final. The Captain has looked to be on the wane several times this season so it's a brilliant effort for Groover to be in the Grand Final again but Poon looks more settled and we are stuck with him as champion for another season.

Yes Poony and I figure out you were running on empty. Been an excellent effort to stay in it. Not sure if Poony has any left but he has Rank so I'm not sure he can improve his side. If you have no donuts you will be in with a chance but Poony always seems to have the answers. Every time i play him I have about three out at least every time but he's been well ahead of me in the last couple of years. Good luck on the weekend. He'll be unbearable, even more so, if he wins another one.

Congratulations to@Groover, the 2025 Hogg Premier League champion. Captain Who? upset the hot favourites Poon Army in the Grand Final after several players who had served Hambone well during the year had downers. The win by the Captain was a triumph of the underdog. The Captain had copped no less than 5 losses over the past two years to Poon but won the match that mattered. The Captain appeared to have run out of trades a few weeks back and this limited scope only appeared on Poon's horizon on Grand Final day and he did not have an adequate replacement for Rank. Hmmm...might not be the last time he's cost a minor premier a flag!

This win marks Groover's first Hogg Premier Title since 2012 and he now has a 2-2 record in his four grand finals, as does Poon. Everyone knows the true champions of this game go on to lose all four grand finals but hey waddya gonna do. Poon missed his chance to be the Daddy of us all and for now, both the Captain and Poony are amongst a rather large group of coaches who have won twice. Cripes just one would do me! Well done gentlemen and see you all next season.
