I'm surprised / sceptical that they wouldn't afford the same grace to Glenunga.

As for the rule, initially frustrated, but I suspect and believe the rule came in because of clubs exploiting it - doing enough to qualify a few very talented kids for finals, then come finals loading up with those talented players.

I'm sure every team would be filthy if they rolled up to finals and suddenly the oppo had x6 guns from a development squad fronting up... especially in one of the lower divisions.

My daughter's Under 15 team experienced exactly this a couple of years back. Last round, played TTG away, beat them by 8 goals or so. 2nd week of finals played TTG, there are 5 players they've never seen before. Under 13s playing up, 3 of whom had been State players in Under 12s the previous year. Those same kids went on to dominate the GF a couple of weeks later, including one who won the medal for best on ground.

Would have thought it would be a good idea to have umpires who were at least slightly older than the grade they were officiating. Maybe it's one to consider for next year...

Not whinging cos we lost.

Our U13 GF was umpired by two kids who couldn't have been any older than 14. Just odd.

Exact same for us, the better team won on the day.

We had two lads umpire us during the year, maybe 18-ish years old. Absolutely brilliant job, the best I've seen all year, and that includes senior footy.

The two young boys we had on the weekend...

And I'm not sure the point of having an umpires co-ordinator there if they don't give them feedback!

How’s Houghton’s U17s team in Div 5!! They only won 2 games during the year (by forfeit), finished 5th in a 6 team Div, won all 3 finals and are now in the Grand Final.

Surely that’s never happened before - anywhere. They didn’t actually play in a winning game in the minor round and are in a GF. Unbelievable!

Great for the Raiders - and they were sensational against our 17s last week, coming from 4 goals back in the last to win it.. well deserved victors.

but, bit of a piss take really that you can have a 5 team comp (Morphy Pk pulled out early in the year) and everyone qualifies for finals.

Don't want to take anything away from what they've achieved though the last two weeks - and hope they can give Seaton a good shake in the GF!
