He's incredibly stupid.
Yes it would normally be considered stupid, but absolutely on point for him, so in a perverse way, isn’t.
His whole life has been about being the victim and always having an enemy, someone to blame if you like. So because he has no moral compass, in his mind it’s OK to politicise such incidents as believes he can profit from it politically.
When the Democrat and Minnesota state representative Melissa Hortman and her husband were assassinated just a few months ago, he just made a brief social media post and nothing else. He even refused to call the State Governor, Tim Walz, to offer his condolences, instead politically and personally attacking him. The accused shooter was a right wing looney, but that didn’t stop US Republican Senators Mike Lee and Bernie Moreno, together with Republican US Congressman Derrick van Orden to claim that the accused was a ‘leftist’, ‘Marxist’ and Democrat, with Lee even blaming the assassination on Walz himself.
When Nancy Pelosi’s house was subject to a home invasion a few years ago, and her husband bashed within an inch of his life, Trump joked about it. Apparently now the Trump administration stated that “foreigners who glorify violence and hatred are not welcome visitors to our country” and directed consular officials to “undertake appropriate action” against those deemed to be “praising, rationalising, or making light of” Kirk’s death on social media.
A state department spokesperson said: “This administration does not believe that the United States should grant visas to persons whose presence in our country does not align with US national security interests.”
Previously the Trump administration has directed investigators at Immigration and Customs Enforcement (Ice), who would typically target human traffickers and drug smugglers, to track down foreign students who may have shown sympathy for the Palestinian cause or criticized Israel in social media posts. The administration has gone after those who have taken part in pro-Palestinian demonstrations across university campuses.
So the very free speech of Kirk that they worship is not allowed for others who have a different view. Trump is allowed to mock political violence if it occurs to his political opponents but will crack down on those who do the same to his political allies.
Welcome the the 2025 version of the United States of America.
