The Glenelg Football Club is proud to announce the extension of Senior Coach Darren Reeves for an additional two years.

The two-time premiership coach will remain at the helm of the senior playing group until the end of 2028, continuing his legacy and influence on the Club’s most successful era in it’s 100-year history.

Glenelg Football Club President David Whelan said the extension reflects the Board’s confidence in Reeves’ leadership and his vital role in driving the Bays’ football program forward.

“Our Board is strongly committed to supporting the football program to ensure it has the best opportunity for sustained success. Darren’s leadership is critical in achieving this”, Whelan said.

“Reeves has been instrumental in strengthening the football program, fostering high standards of performance, and developing a strong culture across all levels of the playing group.

“This announcement reaffirms the Glenelg Football Club Board’s commitment to the long-term sustainability of the Club.

“The extension of Darren’s contract is representative of the trust, loyalty, and dedication his relationship with the playing group fosters. Darren will continue to coach the Bays through our 7th consecutive finals campaign this September, the third under his guidance.”

Reeves is the Club’s second-ever back-to-back premiership coach – a remarkable feat that is credit to his personable coaching style, the relationships he has with each senior player, and his commitment to bettering the team both on and off the field.

Head of Football, Paul Sandercock, commends Reeves victorious campaign.

“Coach Reeves has led the club to incredible results. Two premierships in two years is an outstanding effort and somewhat surreal when referring to a first-time SANFL coach. His success is no fluke. His ability to build relationships, be resolute in how he wants the side to play and have faith in all players to perform their role each week is exceptional,” Sandercock said.

Reeves’ closest comrade through the Club’s back-to-back flags in 2023/24, captain Liam McBean, credits the success of the Club’s modern era to the strong connections built within the group, strengthened during Reeves’ tenure,

“As a playing group, we’re thrilled that Reeva has signed for an additional two years. In the three years he has been coach at Glenelg, he has built incredibly strong connections across all layers of our playing group and football department, which has been instrumental in building a sustainable culture of high performance and success”, McBean said on the re-signing of Reeves.

“I’ve grown so much as a man and a leader under Reeva’s guidance. I look forward to continuing to work with him in elevating our Club.”

With a 7-1 finals record, it is fair to say Reeves connection-based mantra works, with players and staff alike crediting his coaching style as one of the best to have come through the doors at the Bay.

Reeves was named coach of The Advertiser SANFL Team of the Year in 2023, held assistant coaching roles in the SA West End State Team in years 2023 and 2024, and reached the major appointment of Head Coach earlier this year.

Despite reaching the pinnacle of SANFL success in recent years, Reeves is conscious there is still work to do, turning his focus to the sustainability of the Club’s on-field performance in coming years.

“I’m looking forward to continuing to grow and set our Football club up for the long term”, Reeves said.

“I’m thrilled to extend my time at the Glenelg Football Club. I’m excited about what is ahead for our club and especially our playing group. With our core group still strong and committed and our younger players developing we are in a great position to keep challenging over the next few years.”

“We have incredible support from our commercial partners, we have a supporter base that is second to none so it is great to be a part of the next few years.”

Reeves contract extension comes in the midst of the Bays 2025 finals campaign, the challenge to Hunt History this September continues this weekend as Reeves leads the team back to Adelaide Oval against the Redlegs this Sunday afternoon.

Should his job be a discussion point???

Has he been a success???

He's taken us from the foot of the ladder to consistent Finals appearances, but we're treading water at the moment.

Can he take the next step and take us to a Grand Final? The results the past couple of seasons indicate no, but can things be tweaked so that the side can take the next step?

We need Mark Ross to weave his magic,
we need 4 or 5 walk-up start league players,
we only had 4 recruits this season, a few injuries leaves us exposed.

From afl.com.au

Nathan Bassett to return to South Australia.

Bassett joined the Demons last year to work alongside Simon Goodwin and steer the club's backline and team defence.

But he will leave the club to return to South Australia, with West Adelaide zeroing in on him as its new SANFL senior coach.
