The AFL dont come out of this looking any good at all because their demands don't pass the pub test of being reasonable.

If the Devils fall through the general perception will be "The AFL made stupid demands that weren't really necessary"

I also dont think the AFL let it fall through because ultimately, they will be wanting to get to 'decent' teams ASAP so they generate greater income.

If the AFL didn't 'really' want Tasmania in the comp they didn't need to let it get as far as it got, they could have continued to shun the idea like they had for the past 30 years.

Tend to agree … Gill has given Dill a hospital pass with this one.

My guess.....

The stadium will get done but probably not by the 2028 deadline.

The AFL to 'allow' the Devils to spend the first year or whatever at the current stadium provided the stadium deal is signed and built by 2029 or whatever.

If there isn't a team of architects and engineers working on the job now, and probably for the last 6 months, then even on a green fields site having tenders run, won and construction completed of a $1bn roofed stadium on an island 300+kms off mainland Australia in under 2 years would be optimistic, at best.

You would be a man that knows these things.

Thats why i reckon the Devils come in, first year or two play home games at the two current stadiums, market it as they are building the statewide fan base (becoming the team for all Tasmanians) before moving to the new build in 2030 to which they will have by then gained a captive audience.

The reports say the license is on the provision they play in a roofed stadium, unless the AFL accepts that change then no license.

Put it this way, in a stadium set to cost upwards of $1bn the AFL has committed $15m. $15m! So that's how invested that are. Money talks, bullshit walks.

Thats what im saying....the AFL will accept the change imo.

There isn't one logical reason for them to have accepted Tasmania on a condition of entry that they 100% knew wasn't going to go ahead.

What other towns/cities are lining up to build a $1bn stadium.

The AFL want 20 teams, Tasmania is the next best option. They will make it work despite all the postering, bullying and driving a hard deal.

We all know their business plan/goal/strategy whatever you want to call it is to get to 20 teams. So if Tasmania falls through then what for the AFL......

They're stuck with 18 teams, 9 games a week on TV.

The idiots should be reducing teams, not increasing … they are intoxicating themselves on broadcasting rights revenue at the expense of everything else, even if it wrecks the fabric of the game.

Then there’s the farcical acts by Goyder to hand pick his successor as AFL Chairman as if it’s an entitled plaything, at the expense of the clubs who have a constitutional right to be involved in the process.
Dunno, I’m just an idiot.

100%%% but its easy, lazy income generation. All data-based decision making.

Yeah they do.....

I got an invite to todays Bill Sorrell sport luncheon at Wrest Point.

Guest speaker was Caroline Wilson, other speakers include Premier Rockliff and Devils Chair Grant O’Brien.

Very positive vibe in the room and very strong public statements that the stadium would go ahead.

Admittedly a biased room, but I’m confident after who I spoke to today that this will happen - not done yet, but will happen.

Would have to get some $$$ from the feds to get this done. Must be a promise of something in a dodgy spreadsheet.

Has to go to a vote and they have to convince the Independents which is easier said than done.

Independents just killed off a profitable industry so no chance it gets up
