Very highly rated as an assistant but just probably wasn’t ready for the head coaching job and the transition plan lacked any real thought. Doesn’t help that after having one of our best seasons in a long time during his first year that Merrett and others down tools on him in the second year to force him out.

I just think he's one of those blokes who's better off a senior assistant than as a head coach. He had 6 years under Hardwick & Worsfold, not sure what else he needed to do to be ready.
