Tasmania 1/12 at stumps, need 327 to win. Weatherald made 12 missing out again while Kellaway (147) and Harris (101) made hundreds in the Vic's second innings.

Queensland are 4/238 in response to NSW's 7/429 declared, Khawaja made 87 before nicking off in his usual manner.

Have to agree slightly with whuffer here, I think his innings was a large contributing factor to us winning that test.

He was a flash in the pan thing though, everyone at my Boxing day luncheon was talking about that innings, even those that don't generally watch or follow cricket. Overnight success but the style is/was unsustainable.

And FWIW, I don't think he'll play test cricket again.

I think he's at least a pass mark - in fact I'll say a success - for the India tests. The Melbourne knock, and then his two 20-odds in Sydney when others were failing were actually quite important in a low-scoring match, being only his second test.

Definitely failed since then though. Perhaps the Redbacks can play him into form...

If we're deeming two knocks and a Test win before "And FWIW, I don't think he'll play test cricket again" a success then I need to change how I deem something being successful.

We're completely lost at the top of the order before a 5 Test Ashes series, 3 weeks from the first Test we don't know which player we're either recycling, batting out of position or debuting all with a 38 year at the other end who we also need to replace. Great success!

Selectors were right in picking him and ultimately he was a success.

Sorry mate, this is bollocks. He wasn't a success, he smacked that 60 in Melbourne then he's been dropped, twice.

He didn't get a look in in Sri Lanka, didn't get past 25 in the West Indies then was left out of the Test Championship final with the selectors going with Labuschagne to open ahead of him.

The selectors picked him because we've seen it time and time again where they've failed several players around the country by giving them a go then dropping them.

Maybe i wasnt clear but i do think he was a 'horses for courses' success in that initial India series. That innings in Melbourne sparked the aussies,

We went into that boxing day test 1-1. McSweeney had been failing miserably and was a sitting duck for Bumrah who was running through the aussies.

He came in at 1-1 boxing day facing Bumrah and hit a 60 odd that sparked the aussies to our highest score in the series of 474. We gone to win that game by 184 runs to take the 2-1 lead and off to Sydney.

Sydney test on a mine field, scores of 185, 157 and 181 sees Australia needing 162 to win the series. Whilst not outstanding he comes in and hits 22 of 17 balls getting us a 0-39 start the biggest opening partnership of the test. We go on to win comfortably 4 down and win the series 2-1

Coincidentally or not Khawaja couldn't hit the ball of the square in the first 3 tests, Bumrah destroying him. Once partnered with Konstas he goes on to coincidentally hit get a 57 and 44 in the last two tests more than he hit in the total for the first three.

Obviously Konstas hasnt been a success since that series but it was clear he was selected for the purpose of coming in and taking the game on, putting Bumrah off his lines and it 100% was a success for those two tests. It also seems clear since those first tests he was tapped on the shoulder to bat more responibily and put away the ramps ect to which i dont believe he had played one in all his tests after that india series.

Harsh but understand where your coming from, currently we are number 1 in Test rankings, 2nd in ODI and 2nd in T20 .
We will win 3 tests this summer.
