Has merit at club level but is redundant in the main arena, it takes twenty wickets to win a test match and each one of them is as important as the next.

It was a moot point anyway as the info was incorrect.

Is that a good thing because pitches are generally harder to bat on then or is it a criticism because it's the cricket equivalent to junk time.

We would have to then look at the difference in averages say over the last year or two years in Aus and then overseas between the first and second innings. I'll try have a look (if not you or someone else does before me) because with the change in pitch conditions especially in Australia is it easier to bat on pitches in the third and/or forth innings of a match compared to the first and/or second innings?

Khawaja
Weatherald
Labuschagne
Smith
Head
Green
Carey
Webster
Starc
Doggett
Boland

Do we need Lyon for first test? Rather the deeper batting depth. Webster can switch between bowling styles when required, and Head can tweak them at times too. Green wont have to carry a high work load if we have 3.5 other seamers

Nathan Lyon must play
He is the best performed Ozzie off spinner in Australian History
IF he played every 2nd series in the subcontinent he would have about 6 runs less than his career bowling average

if he dosent play the attack will be without Cummins Hazelwood and Lyon
Hard to replace 3 star bowlers

Lyon + big ovals = Bazball failure

True, he is, but his time is drawing closer to an end, and it's not unreasonable to question whether he's a lock to be picked when guys like Webster + Head can bowl overs.

How many spin wickets does Perth generally provide as well? Without looking, wouldn't think spin accounts for many of the wickets taken in the match?

I recall Lyon was the highest wicket taker at Perth stadium for a couple of years, but that must be going back a while.

I think Gaz has benefitted from the bounce at Perth Stadium.

Averages 21 with the ball, economy rate of 2.6, and a S/R of 47 - all a lot better than his overall figures.

Lyon has the most test wickets at Perth Stadium, 29 @20.86.

Starc is 3 wickets shy with 42 less overs, Hazlewood has a superior average, Boland is untried and even Travis averages 24 along with Bison averaging under 28 there.............Cummins averages 26.

Lyon @ PS:

2019 vs NZ: 2/48 & 4/63 (Taylor, Southee/Latham, Williamson, Nichols, Southee)
2022 vs WI: 2/61 & 6/128 (Holder,Roach/Braithwaite, Brooks, Blackwood, Mayers, Chase, Roach)
2023 vs Pakistan: 3/66 & 2/14 (Shafiq, ul-Haq, Jamal/Ashraf, Jamal)
2024 vs India: 0/23 & 2/96 (Sundar & Pant)

Not sure what the point is in playing Khawaja ?
The game looked past him a year ago. Other than the 200 in Sri Lanka on a dead pitch he has done nothing since 2023 ( maybe aone ot two half centuries at the most).

Better chance of finding an opener if you are giving 2 a go.

I agree Khawaja is a watch and has been for awhile but one or two you reckon? You know you could look it up rather than guessing?

Since the end of the 2023 Ashes Khawaja has passed 50 four times in 35 innings.
