Friend to the 1-3 people who run the business, foe to the 5-50 people who work for them and are getting screwed over.

perhaps if youre on an AWA and are getting screwed over you should take a look at your work ethic as those workers that are good at what they do (like mine) are doing pretty good for themselves and need to be paid big $ to be kept.

Thats one side of it, and those workers are lucky they have a good boss who rewards them for good work. Unfortunately there are a lot of bosses out there who are using the IR laws as a chance to treat their workers like s***t and get rid of them if they complain ("if you dont want the job there are plenty who do" type thing). Two of my mates got the ass from their job so they could be replaced with younger, cheaper labour the day after the scraping of the unfair dismissal laws. There were/are still laws against what happened to them, but they were so easy to bypass, it is a joke. One of them was on the front page of the Advertiser the next day, and they followed his story, until he got another job, which was a fair while later as with media following him, no one wanted to touch him. I'll hunt down the article about him and post it here. I also remember the soon-to-be wife of a safooty.net poster getting shafted as well.

yours may be a genuine case but as stan pointed out its a 2 way street, the unions and at the risk of being crucified the employees have had it very very good for a very long time and employees have had to do "as theyre told". the awas may have put the advantage in the employers favour now but for many years it was very hard for us

I think the saddest part of that line is that it's true. The others are just as bad. Spend long enough in power and there will be stuff ups to point fingers at.
There are considerable achievements that this Government have made that are not being given their dues, but that is how it all works (just like Rann has made considerable achievements in SA but we talk of media mike, high-cost trams and shrines in the parklands).
The longer you can convince the public you are doing OK, the longer you stay in power.

Yes I was good at my job and when I looked at another job I did all the right things and was asked how much would it cost to keep me. I did all the Math's and asked for a $3.05 pay rise and I was told the company can't afford that. See ya.
