Brisbane

Postby Wedgie » Mon Nov 26, 2007 1:20 pm

I'm here in Brisbane for a week. Am staying near the heart of town just across the river fro Southbank. Pretending to work during the day but have every night free. Probably don't plan to go out of city centre. Any good ideas on what I can or should do besides drinking and enjoying the many bazoingas on show?
Glad I didn't bother about bringing my laptop as my hotel charges 50 cents a min! Relying on my trusty palm treo for my SAFooty fix.

Why would you want to do anything other than drink and look at bazoingas?

Good point. Perhaps I'm just after good places to do both istead of randomly chosen establishments.

PS Did Southbank last time I was here and can't be bothered going to the other side of the river. Might cross the river once but that would only be to have a steak at the Breakfast Creek Hotel.

Check out the Pig & Whistle for a few pints, either Queen St Mall or Eagle St, both are good.

Yeah good suggestion, Eagle St is better than the mall though.

If you want somewhere with a fair share of young lovelies you could call into Friday's.
Not far from there is the Jade Buddha which is more of a lounge bar. Both are on Eagle St along the river.

If you feel like heading into the Valley, there are plenty of venues there and is semi-lively on Thursday nights.
You probably won't want to go the Wickham though

Hi Wedgie,

Spent six years up in Brisbane (two as a part time cabbie) but one thing about the place, things are always changing.

Southbank is a great start and for a real Qld feel you need to choose your steak at the Breakfast Creek Hotel.

Never though much of the Treasury Casino when it opened up in the CBD itself , the riverside around Eagle Street used to be pretty good for a range of clubs & restauants by the river.

This is easily accessible from Southbank by the CitiCat Ferry .. the cheapest river cruise on the plannet and well worth getting on to get about.

Fortutude Valley used to be nightclub central, pretty much a dive last time I saw it.

Villages have begun to spring up in places like West End & New Farm.

Gold Coast esp Surfers is the real party place, with the railway it's only about an hour away.
Of course being schoolies week it will be pretty chaotic, but you could catch up with Ben Cousins.

You have gotta make the trip to the Gold Coast.

Melbas, Cocktail & Dreams, Bourban Bar (With Strippers above it) are all quality pubs/clubs with the most amazing women you'll ever see. On one of my footy trips we managed to talk our way into a FHM Party @ Melbas...... Had to hide the tent pole all night! ahahah

The Breakfast Creek Wharf has the best Seafood platters in the world,$$$$,but fantastic, some of the best food you will eat.In a great location too.

If you go to Fortitude Valley,a little cafe called 'Boingos' does the best Big breakfast too.

Also pop in to a place called the Brew House, quite good food and a decent selection of beers they brew themselves.

Burleigh Heads CIB Interviewed me in Melbourne [under a local warrant with a local CIB man] about 12 months ago and talked about my going up to give evidence in a murder trial. A guy I had assessed in Melbourne a year before was being held pending a decision about his fitness to stand trial at all, but so far my free trip [with expert witness pay] hasn't developed.

I'll file the tips though in case I get there on the Qld government.

Thanks for the ideas, especially those that understood what not leaving the city centre meant! :?

Had a fantastic week, I love Brisbane.
Work component was a small training course with some reinforcement and a couple of meetings so that component was pretty small and stress free.
Spent a couple of nights at the Casino as well as a few other local pubs.
Played a bit of eight ball with mates as well as winning a small amount at the Casino.
Last night had a great Indian feed with a dozen other lads somewhere near the Victory Hotel, then went to the Victory, incredibly cheap booze but what a dive!
Even had a bubble machine that spat out foam instead but the local chicks loved rolling around in it so at our insistance the pub didn't fix it!

I love Brissy, my favourite capital city by far.
