To try and convince young blokes it may not be such a bad idea to stay single and hang out with their mates, by making it incredibly pricey to chat up some young thing who needs you to buy her 5 cocktails at 19 a pop.

I bought two G & Ts as pre-dinner drinks in Horsham recently - $5.80 each. They were generous in size and not bad Gin, but I don't know how the prices stack up as I rarely go into Hotels or Hotel dining rooms.

How much does a pint cost these days? Wouldn't mind comparing it to the prices over here. A pint over here normally costs around £3 - £3.20 I have found. Which equates to about $7.50.

Was drinking at the Worldsend two weeks ago and they had $4 Tooheys New pints. At the Cranka last week they had $4.50 pints of Pale Ale. The Elephant usually has $5 pints of imported beer, usually Heinekins or more recently Kilkennys.

EXCISE.

The single biggest reason why the propaganda surrounding the introduction of the GST was a big fat LIE. The high sales taxes on luxury items like beer and tabs were supposed to be replaced by the flat-rate GST, and the prices should therefore have tumbled. Instead, the liars in Canberra not only maintained the excise (A tax by any other name is still a tax), but increased it to compensate for the sales tax reduction.

They still play the pokies, they suck on lollipops instead of smoking.

It may have been different had John Hewson gotten in with "Fight back" - he was going to scrap fuel excise too if I recall correctly.
