Elizabeth is in the country

Well, having stayed there for a week recently, I'd certainly say the outer reaches of civilisation. And the local pub's bottle shop was scratching to come up with a decent wine or champagne - a lower end Yellowglen was the best I could get - and not a decent Chardonnay in sight!

Beer choices were a bit limited too - they seem to have never heard of my 3 favourite brands.

Psyber, You obviously didn't go to Dan Murphy's at Munno Para then. Pretty much any alcohol you can name and generally at cheaper price. It's almost like walking into heaven.

berri game was good fun last year only bad thing was the club didnt supply any way for the supporters to get there. i also think having the under 17's as the curtain raiser was a great seeing as though westies have many juniors from the riverland.

Bring on the country games I say, remember a trip to Pirie many years ago for a north/port game, what a load of fun, particular player at the time emptying my esky as I drove him up there and then attempting to smash the echos (empty of course) on sign posts, footy was of a great standard and crowd great, always good to get up there with a mixture of city/country folk, the SANFL should remember that a lot of country folk are paid members of SANFL clubs and it is pretty hard for them to get up or down to the City to see their side play, so the SANFL should acknowledge these persons commitment to LOCAL FOOTY and take it to them

No, it was the local on the corner near Davoren Park. When I left Adelaide I think Munno Para was just a twinkle in its developer's eye.

Clubs are extremely reluctant to commit to much country football at all at the moment, and the word is there was next to no interest in it from any of the 9 clubs. It will take huge powers of persuasion from the SANFL to push any more than 2 games in 2009 - which is a crying shame all round for country fans. Plenty of reasons given by the clubs, mainly financial, which is reasonable to a degree, but the negativity shown by some clubs toward the concept was startling by a number of reports.

Thats disappointing to hear seeing alot of clubs now are rolling in money from pokies etc, so narrow minded and obviously some clubs administrators have tunnel vision

It was a single storey place in the middle of open space and I noticed the boss got towey because the lad serving had let me go behind the counter to look at what beers they had in the fridge, rather than try to read me the labels, which he was struggling to do..... which meant I was near the till.

Nobody came near me. I'm hefty and tough looking, but I kept my eyes open. The place had that feeling - I've been more relaxed at a Hell's Angels' birthday party.

Errrrrrrr well lets have the facts here.I am Jamestown boy until moving to Adelaide at the age off 19.Andy,I do happen to know where Mick Redden comes from  I stand by the fact that I would not want to pack up everyone to see North play at Pt Augusta of Pt Pirie when I could drive to a game here in Adelaide.I am aware that Gepps Cross is not the end of the Earth thanks Brad  Do I think playing a country game would make the slightest difference to SANFL interest over AFL ...NO .It would create a passing interest and be forgotten the next weekend.Does it add anything to my membership in value........No.Will it give a club sponsor any extra TV time to add to their sponsorship.......NO.Are there 1,000s of Westies jumpers beins sold in the Riverland because of last years game........No.The game in Victor had led to what benefits for South Adelaide from last year?????
So my post remains why would I want to see a game lost to the vast majority of the membership and for what benefit?

Hi, My name is Ron 'Bluey' Dunn. Did you know I played in the 61 & 62 Tasman Premiership sides....

Ive got an idea, perhaps the SANFL or the government could look at building roads between Adelaide and country centres or better still build some airports.
That way everyone could enjoy a SANFL game.
With equine flu going through the country recently the country people must have lost their only mode of transportation. :?
I'd like the enjoyment of watching a Port Lincoln game of football but they've never moved a game to Adelaide for me to watch, surely it should work both ways?

I don't think they want to they might be embarrassed at the standard on display

anyway until the only airline servicing those destinations stops bending us over to fly there (cheaper to go to melb for the same amount of flying time) then for most its only a very long drive around there unless you have some balls to get on that ferry and enjoy the ride :vom: .

You have nothing to gain from a country game mate, but I don't think anyone gives a toss about that. Why shouldn't the SANFL reach out into the country to reach their fans. I remember a trial match between Centrals and Port at Mintaro ages ago when I was a kid and the masses of kids swarming onto the oval for autographs after the siren. If you're from the country you should know that opportunities to acheive anything at a high level can seem so far removed from country life. Exposing kids to games like that does wonders. Every other sport is bashing down the gates to get kids playing their sport, if you want country kids to play something else you're on the right track.

So the Lacrosse scene is kicking arse up there then is it? These kids are probably glued to the TV watching the Crows every week and do not give 2 cents for the SANFL so why flog a dead horse...........I hardly think its an exposure issue.

He's a selfish prick for having an opinion about playing SANFL games in the Country???

If you want to see your team play more often (and god knows why because they are shit), move to Noarlunga. That's almost "Country like" with cars around the boundary, so you should be right at home!!!

Now see if you can get the word "prick" into your reply to me???
