UNUSUAL NAMES FOR HORSES AND DOGS

Postby mal » Tue Dec 04, 2007 7:24 pm

Ive seen odd, unusual, funny and rude names over the years
Some of them got through the system.

The one that stands out was a nag running at the provincials about a decade to go

ESRA STAR

Esra Star was raced by a heap of guys from the west coast...they also raced the horse Oliver Beer, another quirky name.
One of my favorites was an old brisbane horse from the mid 90's 'The Fox Hat'. Race callers would dine out on 'and where's the fox hat".
One of my favorite names was Saville's Anguish by Final Card out of Splendid Walk. Named after Jane Saville who was dq in the Sydney Olympics.

Merkin won a couple of decent races in Sydney until the AJC looked up what it meant in the dictionary.

Tulsy Tsan was another that slipped through and ran twice before someone had a closer look at it.

Richard Cranium was another that comes to mind.

The trots followers will remember the Ivana Humpalot saga a few years back in Adelaide, until the owners changed its name to Ivana My Name Back.

Anyone remember Ginger Mick and Ruthless Dick from Sydney about 20+ years ago.

They were in the same race one day and in the dying stages the commmentator yelled "and its Ginger Mick and Ruthless Dick and Ruthless Dick got the split...." LMFAO...

Does anything beat the Kilmore race about a year ago??

11 - The Girlfriend
12 - Wooden Swallow
3 - For Now
10 - Sticky Nose...

While not unusual themselves = combined in one race was one funny day...

2 trots nags I did really well on in the day were "Earn a Te Ve" here in Adelaide and "Adios Austrax" in Brisbane.

Both won me a ton of cash- I reakon I must have only backed their wins!

Remember "Earn a Te Ve" leading all the way in a standing start race at Globe Derby, and 3 mates of mine lifting me and carrying me on their shoulders around the Marion front ba when I talked em into betting on it.

Still got the ticket somewhere- paid about $21 the win.

Wasn't re-named just retired because it was no good. The syndicate first raced a horse called Radjhasi Star which was affectionately known a Rats A#se. Would wear hats with the nickname to the races. When the next horse came along (trained by GV Richards) they simply spelt the name backwards and hey presto, the got a horse that went backwards.

A mate of mine in Melbourne years ago raced a horse called Seltun. Was a gelding obviously.
