An extra hour's drive, get over it. What about Port's zone?

An hour's extra drive compared to other country zones. Port on the EP is further away than the SE.

As long as Norwood etc. subsidise the other clubs who are further away...

Seriously, if they made WWT play a game @ Mt Gambier, would they be expected to pay own airfares?

Are those zones designed to have roughly the same amount of people in them ike an electoral zone?

IIRC same amount of school kids/schools....

i.e. if based on population as a whole one zone could be made up of realtively more elderly citizens who don't quite meet the age qualifications for 17s and 19s....
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

I believe is based upon 15 year old males by the govt census and is thus planned to be as equal as possible. May be out with the age used but seem to remember being told was of 15 year olds.

Breathe easy Gentlemen, having driven past the main "oval" in Coober Pedy a few times I don't think they'll be playing a SANFL game (trial or minor rd) up there any time soon....

That's my understanding also Col. Am hopeful that they change it to cater for Aussie Rules participation levels in the future, that will ensure the most even allocation possible IMO.

Yes, I have biased reasons for suggesting this - our zone has a very low participation rate, half of most other zones.

I was about to say "yeah keep dreamin", but you have a point.
I believe Country zones further away from Adelaide have a higher participation rate than those closer. Kids in the Barossa, Hills and Fleurieu have access to more sports than those in Eyre Pen because they can easily travel to Adelaide Metro to play more obscure sports.

TroyGFC wrote:I am guessing that the main reason for not having country games could be that with the drought alot of ovals would be very hard and dry. From memory last season Glenelg were to play Sturt at Murray Bridge in a trial and Glenelg didn't want to due to oval's condition - I was all keen to go mind you and had booked into hotel next to bridge.

that game was proposed to be played at the most successful clubs ground, which also happens to be the worst oval in town. its a mystery why the RMFL proposed to have it there in the first place? there are other great ovals in the bridge that would be on par and better than adelaide ovals.
with plenty of x murray bridge (and surrounding areas) players invovled with sturt it would be very heavily attended by the country folk. i think its a great idea.
Murray Bridge is the perfect place to start as it is only 40 mins from the tollgate and would take less time to travel to than most suburban grounds surely. there aint many stoplights or too much traffic on a dual lane highway....
the bridge will be a considered a 'suburb' of adelaide in a few years time
