My main concern is how will everyone at South be able to relate to a coach that knows what it takes to win. The bloke would feel like an alien!! Why is it always about the precious players with us? Get on board and do it the mans way or fu$k off......
Hi, My name is Ron 'Bluey' Dunn. Did you know I played in the 61 & 62 Tasman Premiership sides....

Well said Westcoast, Alex Ferguson is not a young bloke and he coaches a Man U club of young prima dona's who appear to have reasonable success. Cahill's age will have bugger all to do with success or failure it is up to the players to take on board what Cahill and Taylor instruct this group to do. If they are willing to learn from 2 blokes whose experience, not age, is invaluable not only will they have success they may also enjoy the benefits from their knowledge.

Spoke to a South player last night and he cant beleive the change in attitude already in their first few training sessions, couldnt speak highly enough of Jack and seems he has had an impact already about working hard and a real atmosphere change because everyone wants to be out there for the right reasons.

I attended a training seesion and was surprised at how fit Jack still is.
His own participation level and commitment is terrific.
He is leading by example and working on building both higher levels of fitness and a strong sense of teamwork .
The players really seem to be taking to the changed approach with a lot of enthusiasm.
Michael Taylor also strongly compliments Jack's refreshingly honest approach to developing a group of players commited to both hard work and to each other.
The idea of the Panthes developing a commited team seems to be a very distinct possibility in that environment.
Improvement will happen without doubt.

They want 2 hope its bubbling half way through the year.
If its not, youll definately see a changed approach from PA PA JACK,that will test the players out.
Then we'll see who wants 2 be there & who doesn't.

Funny that, because I was just looking at some recent preseason training photos on safc.com.au and McGrath was in a number of them

Well it worked the first time!

Are they worried he'll object to smoking grass or taking E's at half-time?
Or even require them to actually work and live up to their Workplace Agreements [sorry "contracts"]?

Yeah I did. Sat listening for the full 40mins and found it very interesting. He came across as being very frank and no-nonsense. Interesting bits included

He was going to groom a successor over the next 2 years - Sampson or Torney were mentioned as possibles.
He has given Prendergast a rev up - said he looks happy and confident off field but doesn't take that on field - make his opponent worry about him. Thinks Prendergast is also good enough to play in the mid field.
Said that Ben Warren has new fire in the belly
Was a wrap for Mitch Sandery going to South (has spent the last two years playing mostly ressies at Nwd).
Apparently had full endorsement from the Magpies to go to South. Was lured there by Naley, Honor, Shane Butler and one other person who effectively head-hunted him.
Believes that Ben Kavanagh is a good CE who suffered last year from having too much on his plate with not enough support around him.
Was a big wrap for the support staff, medical personnel and volunteers at Noarlunga.
Is rotating training from Noarlunga to Montefiore Hill to Flinders Uni. (Obviously cutting out a lot of travel for not only himself but also the playing group).
He will also be spending a lot of time cultivating the relationship between South and the SFL - including going to B&F nights and doing guest speaking gigs.
Believes that West and Norwood have recruited very well and that the Magpies will also improve.
Reckoned that Laird and Jarman were destined for the AFL - notwithstanding that Laird has denied interest in an AFL coaching gig!
Also regaled a lot of stories from the past which were interesting in themselves.
Demonstrated a lot of confidence and leadership and no doubt some of that will have to rub off on the club as well as the playing group.
Said that South has a lot of good juniors, as does the SFL.

Overall it very much sounded as though he was there with the right attitude - indeed a very good attitude. Knows that culture change is required and wants to help there. Doesn't know the club song yet but wants to sing it 10 times in 2008!

Anyone else hear it? Thoughts?

Would hope so after Jack turfed out many of the last bunch. Allegedly.

A newly appointed coach and paid employee being positive about the future? Whatever next, the players are training harder than ever?
