Good work by Dizz and Gilly to avoid the follow on. Now we must try to get as close to there total as possible and bat for as long as possible.

5/124 at stumps.

No sign of Warnie getting any of the "easy wickets" that Murali grabs when he plays against Bangladesh.

Not if you listen to Thommo commentating. Seriously he is nearly as bad as Tony Grieg and he butchers the Queens English with gay abandon as well during most of his stints.

I think there have been some appalling LBW's given in this test - most against Australia but Thommo would have fired them out if he was umpiring. No hawkeye isn't helping with the replays either (and no Fox interactive selection in this series either :( )

Best partnership of the innings so far - 70*

Gilchrist - 104* - joins a select group to score a century against every Test playing nation
Gillespie - 24* - 2nd top scorer in the innings.

Only two aren't there?
Or at least, two before this one.

Steve Waugh? Or was it Mark - I can't remember. And .. Lara?

Steve Waugh, Lara, Kirsten (I assume Gary), and a couple of others which I'll find.

I've gone through the players who have scored 18 or more 100s' and have come up with:

Sachin Tendulkar
Steve Waugh
Brian Lara
Rahul Dravid

Others I know of are Gary Kirsten and now Adam Gilchrist.

I know that both Ponting and Hayden need a century against Bangladesh.
Inzamam-Ul-Haq needs a century against South Africa.
Jacques Kallis needs a century against Sri Lanka.
Justin Langer needs centuries against Bangladesh and Zimbabwe.

Seeing this is Bangladesh's best ever test performance and Australia have been playing test cricket almost continuously since November, this comment is a no ball and you'll have to bowl it again. Besides, Murali takes one end and practically bowls throughout...Australia have more than just two bowlers. If Warnie played as many tests against the Bangers as Murali has he'd have a hundred extra wickets by now.

Exactly.
If Warne were from the sub-continent he'd have 25% more wickets.

Australia are on the back foot here - and good on the Bangas for it.

This is the downfall of being the "best" in the world - when you look like you might fail - everyone notices and comments. It's still eleven guys against 11 guys. You still need 20 wickets to win (or 18, if you're south Africa - and still don't get it) and really, history means nothing (apart from what plays in the oppositions minds).

This won't be a draw and at the moment, it's 50/50 (only because it's Australia).

I thought this was a good way to describe Ricky's captaincy
(of which, I am NOT a non-fan)

"Gideon Haigh has noted that the "currency of [Ponting's] captaincy is runs, the principal means by which he stamps his authority on his team." His captaincy, he wrote after the Ashes, was "depressingly stereotyped in his thinking." Certainly, he is different from a Border, Taylor or Waugh and to watch Australia in the field in this match, with no slips posted as Bangladesh began their second innings, justified Haigh's assertion that Ponting is a tentative captain, "trying to make sure that nothing went wrong, rather than gambling that something would go right."

"Mind you, he does still lead a damn good team, though maybe not as glittering as those of recent vintage. But you suspect he may have to gamble on something going right for him over the next couple of days to prevent what would be the biggest wrong of his career. "

Well Dizzy & Warney are well on the way to saving Ricky's arse in this match:

Bangledesh 9/147

Gillespie 3/18 (11)

Overall lead of 305

I preferred the RSA tests - at least I could watch a whole days play after work! DAMNIT!

Haha, Magilla stuck on 9 wickets for the match! I wonder how often a player has not made 10fer after getting 8fer in the first innings.

GO DIZZY!

Not sure CP, I have only posted scores that I checked from baggygreen. Judging by the replays last night, the pitch was definately keeping low. I think you are spot on - shite batting, good bowling.

Nice turn around by the lads. Great bolwing by Dizzy & Shane (at last).

Record opening stand by Hussey and Hayden. Maybe we can save some face.
